LifeLabs Medical Laboratory Services is seeking a Pathologist Assistant to join our team in Toronto, Ontario.

Our Pathologists’ Assistants assist the pathologists in the preparation of human surgical specimens. They assist in examining and collecting tissues for various other needs including controls in the laboratory, and testing of new methodologies. They are also responsible for maintaining records of tissue and other QA/QC parameters. This is a great role for a hands-on, detail-oriented individual who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

**Your responsibilities will include**:
Dictating gross descriptions and completing dissection of surgical specimens
Selecting and submitting tissue sections for microscopic examination
Following protocols to ensure proper orientation of specimen at embedding
Assisting in collecting and submitting tissue for a variety of needs including controls, teaching, and research
Troubleshooting errors
Developing, updating and maintaining procedural and safety manuals

This is a Full Time role with flexible shift work suitable to the maintenance of a healthy work/life balance. LifeLabs’ facilities are also known as “teaching laboratories,” offering opportunities to share knowledge in a collaborative environment, 24-hour medical support through our Medical Science team and Medical library, and the ability to teach our college and university student placements.

LifeLabs is seeking individuals who can work collaboratively in a fast-paced team environment, while adhering to LifeLabs’ standards of safety, accuracy and efficiency.

**Do you have**:
Undergraduate University degree required, Masters in Health Science preferred.
Completion of a recognized Pathology Assistant’s Training Program.
Minimum of 3 years’ recent experience as a Pathology Assistant dealing with surgical specimens
CAP/AAPA registered.
Knowledge of human anatomy and medical terminology. Knowledge of how to approach a wide variety of human organs in order to stage tumours.
Excellent communication skills to enable you to relate with a wide variety of people.
Attention to detail; must be precise in performing technical tasks to accurately produce a section code.
