**Hours of Work:
**Weekday**:Days; 8hrs; As per schedule

**Summary of Duties**

The Medical laboratory Assistant in Anatomic Pathology will be extensively cross-trained in many different sections of Anatomic Pathology with the potential for training in Molecular Diagnostics. This includes but is not limited to: specimen registration, managing slide distribution, specimen sendout, tracking and reconciliation of reports, specimen preparation and staining of Cytology specimen, inventory control, specimen archiving and disposal, equipment maintenance including safe handling of chemicals, and, front line trouble-shooting and customer service. The Medical Laboratory Assistant is a partner in a team that is collaborative, flexible, punctual and reliable. He/she deals in a professional manner with peers, MLTs, Pathologists, management, and clients both internally and externally.

**Qualifications/Skills**
- Certified MLA with Medical Laboratory Professionals of Ontario (MLPAO) or equivalent
- Previous experience in at least one area of Anatomic Pathology required
- Strong medical and anatomical terminology - required
- Applies clinical information and specimen specific instructions accurately and quickly at accessioning
- required
- Previous experience in a laboratory accessioning, prepping and staining Cytological specimens -preferred
- Experience with Copath LIS preferred
- Demonstrated ability to communicate professionally with clients either directly or with Microsoft Office Outlook - required
- Demonstrated ability to create documents using Microsoft Word and Excel preferred
- Handle hazardous chemicals and fresh specimen in a safe manner utilizing appropriate PPE - required
- Strong analytical skills for trouble-shooting requisition and specimen deficiencies independently and in a timely manner
- Must work well in a team, supporting and collaborating across multiple benches to ensure coverage throughout the shift, prioritizing and multitasking to complete the workload
