Position Profile:

- Perform gross description and dissection of surgical tissues removed for microscopic interpretation, which includes selection, preparation and submittal of samples for histologic examination.
- Assist in autopsy services to setup and perform postmortem examinations.
- Assist in the teaching of prosection of various organs as required to pathology residents and rotating medical students.
- Interact with the operating room staff and clinics regarding the submission of tissue specimens for processing.
- Coordinate the temporary storage, retention and disposal of tissue specimens.
- Working knowledge of laboratory safety precautions and hygiene.
- Perform other functions necessary for providing anatomic pathology services.
- This Unity Health position may require assisting at both the St. Joseph's Health Centre and St. Michael's Hospital Pathology sites, dependent on need.

Qualifications:

- Master's Degree in a recognized Pathology Assistant program required.
- Prior Pathologists' Assistant experience (one to two years) preferred.
- Excellent organization, interpersonal, communication, problem solving and analytical skills.
- Must be able to work effectively and independently in a team environment.
- Satisfactory attendance record as per the Health Centre's Attendance Management Program Policy SJ-08-01-08.
