Job Summary

The University of British Columbia (UBC) has embarked on a multi-year project to transform its academic and administrative support processes and systems environments for the entire UBC community. Workday Student implementation in the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies (G+PS) and College of Graduate Studies (COGS) requires managing and overseeing projects for the development, implementation and adoption of all aspects of the new Student Information Systems (SIS), including all aspects of data management, analysis and reporting. G+PS and COGS need expanded capacity to understand the new data landscape, validate reports delivered by the Integrated Renewal Program (IRP) teams and effectively transition to working within Workday. The Data Analyst will help teams in both graduate schools to manage their ongoing work and to understand the data and reporting capabilities of Workday to continue business as usual.

Organizational Status
Professional team member of the Communications and Strategic Initiatives (CASI) group within the Dean’s Office in the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies. Reports to the Manager, Data Systems and Analysis. Liaises with team leads/managers as necessary on their data needs. The Data Analyst may supervise student workers.

Work Performed

Data Collection, Analysis, and Reporting
- Provides solutions for data merging, linking and enhancement across sources/systems to generate meaningful business insights;
- Contributes to and evaluates technological solutions to meet data and reporting needs, both at UBC as a whole and within G+PS, COGS, and the graduate ecosystem;
- Gathers requirements on reports needed by graduate programs and supports deployment of reports for end users;
- Evaluates feasibility to deliver self-service data reporting;
- Plans, designs, develops, and implements analytical reports, research projects, and statistical information on graduate admissions, enrolment, benchmarking, and performance indicators, including analysis and reporting of UBC-specific data obtained from national benchmarking surveys;
- Manages all aspects of research studies, including designing questionnaires, determining samples, collecting, organizing, synthesizing, and analyzing data, monitoring returns, and reporting results;
- Responds to requests for statistical information from internal and external parties;
- Develops and maintains data dashboards and other visualization strategies to facilitate effective access to and communication of graduate education-related data;
- Provides data for campus-wide data metrics and benchmarking projects;
- Performs quality assurance testing;

Data Systems and Operations
- transition of all current reports (ad hoc, strategic) from SIS to Workday by adjusting existing analytical outputs to use data/extracts from Workday and relevant add-on solutions and accounting for data definition and format as well as process changes etc.;
- Supports work necessary for the Workday Student launch, such as report and data validations, tier 1 support to teams who have questions about reports etc.;
- Provides training post Workday launch with regard to reporting, including access to data, interpretation of reports, changes to formats/layouts etc.;
- Documents and delivers newly identified requirements as a result of the Workday launch to support new needs or processes;
- Operates database management systems to collect and analyze data;
- Provides technical opinions on suitability of techniques and methodology for data collection and management;
- Performs quality assurance testing; conducting post-implementation reviews to ensure continuous improvement and learning;
