**Primary Function**:
The Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations (FSIN) is seeking a highly motivated individual for the position of Family Information Liaison Officer (FILO). This is a technical support position responsible for providing technical and analytical information in designated areas, including conducting research as required, for the FSIN Women’s Secretariat and the Saskatchewan First Nations Women’s Commission (the Women’s Commission) with a focus on missing and murdered Indigenous people (MMIP); develop written documentation for briefings, reports, presentations, updates, and forward planning.

**Typical Duties and Responsibilities**:
**Analytical**
- This position is responsible for addressing the informational needs of families of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls and Two-Spirit people (MMIWG2S+) including Indigenous boys and men in Saskatchewan; gathering information requests from families to share with the Ministry of Justice Family Information Liaison Unit (FILU); referring families to other agencies, organizations, and services as needed; and/or any other projects identified by the Executive Director or the Women’s Commission.
- Family Liaison and Networking - provide information and appropriate support to build positive, trusting relationships with families of missing/murdered loved ones; liaise with Indigenous communities and organizations.
- Communication and Information Access - make contact with MMIP’s families to determine information needs and establish respectful relationships that meets families’ needs; engage MMIP’s families, advocacy groups, Indigenous organizations and communities to develop an understanding of family needs and expectations of the FILU.
- Referral and Support - refer families of MMIP’s to appropriate, culturally safe grief and trauma-based resources for emotional and cultural support; work with Indigenous partners, government and non-government agencies including federal and municipal police services to identify and access various services.
- Education and Awareness - increase awareness to families of MMIP relating to the impact of victimization and about services provided; participate in presentations with youth and families at the community level; create awareness of the FILU’s operation and activities that may result in the development of new policies or programs to address the issues of missing or murdered Indigenous women and girls, two-spirit/men and boys.
- Cultural Knowledge and Support - acknowledge cultural diversity and value, encourage and support differences; work with the FILU to arrange for translation or interpretation services for families of MMIP, as required.
- Administration Services - maintain an up-to-date filing system that reflects information requested and provided; provide regular updates of activities, challenges and accomplishments with long-term policy development and legislative initiatives to address systemic issues and needs.
- Participate in Treaty and governance initiatives, as required.
- Conduct, compile, and analyze research, as required.
- Provide consultative advice to Women’s Secretariat and the Women’s Commission.
- Assist the Executive Director in the implementation of Chiefs-in-Assembly and Women’s Commission resolutions, directives, policy decisions.
- Drafting letters, briefing notes, reports and communication as directed or required.
- Assist with planning, organizing, and hosting the annual Strength of Our Women Gala.
**Communications**
- Prepare briefing notes, updates, media releases and other communications materials related to the Women’s Secretariat.
- Maintain effective liaison and communication with First Nations and Tribal Councils.
**Liaison**
- Report on Women’s Secretariat activities and initiatives to the Women’s Commission and working/advisory groups as assigned.
- Maintain effective liaison and communication with all levels of government, both First Nations and non-First Nations.
- Identify all stakeholders in terms of obtaining feedback and input on work being completed through Women’s Secretariat initiatives.

**Qualifications**:
**Education**
- Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field such as Social Work, Law, Public Policy, or a related discipline.
**Experience**
- Minimum of five (5) years’ experience.
- High level proficiency in written and communication skills
- Computer skills - Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Internet.
- A combination of education and experience will be considered.
- Knowledge and understanding of First Nations customs, culture, and history.
