The Director, Prevention & Return to Work Program Services is responsible for providing strategic and operational leadership by planning, directing and managing the operational arm of SAFE Work Manitoba. The incumbent is responsible for providing leadership to staff and directing the overall performance and results of the department as well as for implementation of elements within WCB's strategic plan and Manitoba's Five-Year Prevention Plan.

**Job Duties**:
Responsible for the overall development, implementation and management of all Prevention and Return to Work Program services for SAFE Work Manitoba.

Conceptualizes, designs and implements new strategies, programs and services that will prevent workplace injuries, support safe and suitable return to work practices and build a genuine safety culture.

Provides management, leadership, direction, guidance, and support to SAFE Work staff. This includes responsibility for hiring, conducting performance reviews, labour relations, performance development, coaching and deciding on disciplinary action up to and including dismissal where necessary.

Coordinates the work, initiatives and projects of the SAFE Work department; provides expertise to the department; works with each of the department Managers and their Portfolio Leaders to develop performance management frameworks, establish performance measures and targets; tracks and reports on performance results to senior leadership team as required.

Collaborates with the Director, Regional Offices to ensure that Prevention and Return to Work Program services provided from Brandon and/or Thompson meet the same standards and are regionally accessible for stakeholders.

Builds alliances, professional relationships and partnerships with external stakeholders and internal departments in order to achieve SAFE Work Manitoba's prevention and return to work goals. Establishes and maintains effective business relationships with industry based safety programs and other organizations that deliver prevention and return to work services in the community.

Participates as a member of external committees and represents SAFE Work Manitoba in public speaking engagements.

Works in conjunction with other corporate departments to strategically and effectively position programs and services; actively promotes prevention and return to work strategies and supports the delivery of WCB Manitoba's and SAFE Work Manitoba's objectives to employers and workers.

Reviews and monitors policies, procedures and processes and makes recommendations for enhancement; participates in policy reviews, process and system improvements; and ensures staff understand and implement new policies/procedures consistently.

Develops and monitors the annual administrative departmental budget.

Pursues professional and personal development through continuing education and training, literature reviews, and workshops, seminars, etc.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

**Qualifications**:
University degree in a related discipline

Professional designation or accredited training in occupational health and safety and/or disability management

Minimum five (5) years progressive management experience including the development and implementation of programs in areas such as prevention, risk management, disability management, occupational health and safety, return to work or insurance

Knowledge of managerial techniques and principles

Knowledge of prevention and disability management procedures and principles

Proficiency in the use of personal computers and advanced software skills (Microsoft Office, Powerpoint, Excel) in a Windows environment

Well developed research, analytical and problem solving skills

Superior written and verbal communication skills including the ability to develop and deliver presentations and reports to senior management and other stakeholders

Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills with the ability to use tact and discretion in dealing with sometimes confrontational situations

Ability to lead, manage, mentor and motivate staff

Ability to manage, promote and lead organizational change Ability to develop and control budgets

Ability to work independently and in a team environment

Must be able to travel as required including within city limits and within the province of Manitoba

The ability to communicate proficiently in both official languages (English & French) is an asset, but is not required.
