Our Edmonton or Calgary office is currently seeking a full-time (40 hours per week), permanent Reclamation Specialist to join our team
**Qualifications**:
- Degree or Diploma in Environmental, Natural or Soil Sciences or Technical Diploma in an Environmental discipline.
- Regulatory criteria and guidelines within Alberta and Saskatchewan, wetland assessments (considered an asset), soil classification and description.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and organizational abilities.
- Professional status or eligibility for professional status with APEGA, AIA, ASET, or ASPB.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to address complex environmental challenges.
- Physical requirements: Ability to conduct fieldwork, including site inspections and monitoring, which may involve walking over rough terrain and working in various weather conditions.
**Responsibilities**:
The responsibilities for the Reclamation Specialist may include, but are not limited to:
- Conduct detailed site evaluations (including Phase I and II ESAs and DSAs) to identify environmental impacts and determine the extent of contamination or land degradation.
- Develop comprehensive reclamation plans, including timelines, resource allocation, and cost estimates, ensuring alignment with environmental standards and regulations.
- Oversee the execution of reclamation projects, including soil remediation and reclamation, water treatment, vegetation restoration, and habitat reconstruction.
- Establish monitoring programs to track the progress and effectiveness of reclamation efforts, making necessary adjustments to achieve desired outcomes.
- Ensure all reclamation activities comply with provincial regulations and policies.
- Prepare detailed reports on project progress, environmental impacts, and compliance status for stakeholders and regulatory bodies.
- Work with landowners, government agencies, community groups, and other stakeholders to facilitate project success and address any concerns.
**PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING ENVIRONMENT**
- Ability to travel throughout British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba, and be out of town as needed.
- Ability to work in the field as needed throughout the year in various weather conditions.
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time.
- Must be able to bend, climb stairs, and continuously stand or walk 50% of the time.
- Must be able to lift 40 pounds (for example: packages, boxes, equipment, etc.).
- Manual dexterity: ability to utilize computer and other technology/office equipment.
- This position regularly requires substantial amounts of time to be spent using and viewing computer screens and equipment, which entails regular and repetitive motions.
- Must be able to effectively communicate by listening and in both written and verbal forms.
Safety training such as First Aid, CPR, WHMIS, TDG, Ground Disturbance and H2S Alive would also be an asset.
