Your Opportunity:
Being the first and only Indigenous pediatric healthcare program in North America, the Awasisak Indigenous Health Program strives to meet patients' and families' unique and complex needs. Reporting to the Team Lead of Awasisak Indigenous Health Program, the Child and Family Engagement Coordinator, plays a vital role in engaging with Indigenous families and communities. Ensuring healthcare provided at the Stollery Children's Hospital is culturally safe and meets their specific needs. Acting as a ‘host’ and liaison, you will provide holistic and practical support to children and their parents.
Description:
The coordinator plays a vital role in bridging the gap between hospital care and community support for families navigating their child's health journey. Acting as a compassionate guide, they provide on-site navigation, ensuring families can easily connect with essential services and resources. Whether accompanying families to community engagement activities or important appointments, the coordinator is a steadfast ally. In addition to direct support, the coordinator is responsible for organizing Awasisak events and gatherings celebrations and ceremonies that foster connection and belonging, both on and off-site. This role involves networking and forging strong relationships with community partners and stakeholders, enhancing a support system that thrives on collaboration. Engaging with various groups through presentations and public speaking, the coordinator not only shares vital information but also inspires hope and resilience within the community, making a positive impact on the lives of families during challenging times.

**Required Qualifications**:
Minimum of 3-5 years' experience working in a health-related field that requires problem solving and working with Indigenous children and families. Experience in an acute care child health facility as well as cross-cultural health care experience preferred. Combination of education and experience considered.
**Additional Required Qualifications**:
As a bona fide occupational requirement and under Section 11 of the Alberta Human Rights Act, only Indigenous applicants will be considered. A high degree of cultural competence and embedded experience as it relates to working with Indigenous people (First Nations, Métis and Inuit).
**Preferred Qualifications**:
The ability to speak an Indigenous language is an asset. Knowledge of Indigenous history, worldviews, perspectives, beliefs/values, culture and traditions is highly valuable.
