**Supply Chain - Trade Compliance Specialist (On-Site)**
**About Us - The Company**
TAG Hardware designs, engineers, and manufactures products for the closet and modular furniture industry. Our 70,000 square foot brand new manufacturing plant is located in South Surrey, British Columbia. The facility also houses our head office, plastic injection molding machines, powder coating machine, assembly work stations, and a warehouse, where we develop and produce our patented products for customers globally.
**About the Role - Position Purpose/Objective**:
The Supply Chain Trade Compliance Specialist will play a critical role in ensuring that the company adheres to all relevant customs regulations and global trade agreements. The primary objective of this position is to lead efforts in maintaining regulatory compliance, managing trade-related risks, and ensuring the company takes full advantage of preferential trade agreements and duty-saving programs. Through a combination of strategic analysis and cross-functional collaboration, this role will directly contribute to the efficiency and competitiveness of the company’s global supply chain operations. In addition, the role will support the purchasing function by strategically sourcing goods and services as required.
**Key Responsibilities**:
**Trade and Customs Compliance**:
- Ensure full compliance with all relevant domestic and international trade laws, customs regulations, and import/export requirements.
- Monitor changes in global trade policies and regulations (e.g., tariffs, sanctions, customs procedures) and update internal processes to stay compliant.
- Oversee the classification of products under the Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) and manage customs valuation to ensure accurate duty rates and avoid penalties.
- Preparation and submission of HS ruling requests to relevant customs authorities to ensure compliance with international trade regulations.
- Ensure proper documentation is in place for all international shipments, including commercial invoices, bills of lading, and certificates of origin.
- Act as the point of contact for customs authorities and regulatory agencies to resolve any trade compliance-related issues.
- Advise and implement rules of origin (ROO) and ensure compliance with relevant trade agreements such as USMCA, EU, CPTPP, and others to maximize duty savings.
**Procurement and Sourcing**:
- Assist in the strategic sourcing of goods and services.
- Process purchase orders for goods and raw materials.
- Coordinate global logistics, obtain freight quotes and shipment tracking.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, obtaining and reviewing documentation.
- Ensure proper inventory management providing assistance with receiving and invoice discrepancies.
- Support quality consistency by addressing product non-conformances along side the Quality Team.
- Bachelor’s degree in International Trade, Business, Logistics, or a related field.
- 3-5 years of experience in customs compliance, rules of origin, and trade agreements.
- In-depth knowledge of customs laws, regulations, and compliance procedures (both domestic and international).
- Expertise in trade agreements such as CUSMA, EU, CPTPP, and other regional and bilateral agreements.
- Proven experience with tariff classifications, duty preferences, and the administration of trade programs.
- Has a true sense of ownership and work ethic.
- Familiarity with manufacturing environments and a technical understanding of processes and the elements of product costing will be a great asset.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to navigate complex customs and trade issues.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
- Strong organizational and project management skills.
- Is a self-starter, proactive and able to work independently.
- Is a high-performance team player, willing to work in a dynamic, growing, demanding and fast-paced environment.
