**FINANCIAL MANAGER/OFFICER**

Accountable to: Executive Director

Primary Responsibility: Financial Manager/Officer

Hours of work: 40% FTE (14 hours/week)

Primary Location: Regina Saskatchewan

**The Position**

We seek a high-performing Financial Manager/Officer, who plays a key role in transforming strategic and operational initiatives while ensuring internal controls are in place to adequately safeguard the organization's assets and financial health.

**What does success look like?**
- Ensure compliance with:

- SCIC’s Finance, Financial Controls, and Procurement Policy
- Canadian Accounting Standards for Not-for-Profit organizations
- Canada Revenue Agency and Provincial ISC obligations
- Global Affairs Canada, and other funding agreements
- Support the Executive Director to prepare and manage a comprehensive budget by preparing accurate monthly financial statements and reports, and maintaining up-to-date account records
- Provides strategic and policy advice to the Executive Director, and the Board of Directors
- Support the Executive Director to prepare the draft budget for review by the Finance & Audit Committee, and the Board of Directors
- Will be a member of the bargaining committee on behalf of the management of SCIC
- Maintain the general ledger and oversee financial accounting systems for cash management, accounts payable and receivable, deposits and petty cash; prepare month-end transactions; post to and reconcile general ledger
- Reconcile bank and investment accounts
- Prepare cheque requisitions and cheques, and ensure invoices and expense reports are supported by the necessary documentation
- Oversee the management of all payroll functions including preparing and/or liaising with the Treasurer or Executive Director and bank on monthly staff payroll
- Ensure accuracy of payroll-related filings (T4s, source deduction remittances), and prepare Records of Employment (ROE) as required
- Oversee the management of employee insurance and benefits plans
- Ensure SCIC’s statutory requirements are met including withholding payments (CPP, EI), income tax, GST, and employee benefits; prepare and submit GST returns
- Ensure SCIC’s Board contact information is updated and submitted in a timely manner to the Canada Revenue Agency
- Review and provide guidance on risks for all SCIC contracts with financial implications
- Prepare supporting information for the annual audit and liaise with external auditors as necessary, including liaising with the auditor on the preparation of annual tax return
- Document and maintain complete and accurate supporting information for all financial transactions, and advise on compliance
- In conjunction with the Executive Director, assist with the preparation of funder-requested financial reports and help to ensure lease, contract, and financial commitments are met in a timely manner
- Evaluate software needs to meet SCIC’s financial data processing, control, and reporting requirements
- Respond to requests for accounting information in a timely, professional manner
- Uphold the mission statement and values of SCIC, and comply with all SCIC policies and procedures
- Provide relevant administrative support and services, as requested
- 5+ years of experience in financial roles with a CPA designation
- Experience in NGO organizations and Non-for-Profit Accounting is desirable Proficiency with financial software (SAGE/QuickBooks is desirable)
- Strong technological abilities (virtual collaboration, virtual communication, video conferencing, remote information management in cloud-based settings)
- Proven ability to prioritize projects and initiate follow through with meticulous attention to detail and high-level accuracy
- Excellent interpersonal skills, along with a strong work ethic coupled with tact and diplomacy
- Flexible, self-motivated, proactive, and strong communication and presentation skills
- Proven self-starter with demonstrated project management, organizational, analytical, and multitasking skills
- Professional discretion and ability to keep necessary financial information confidential
