Join our team at Jericho Beach Kayak to grow our Mandarin-language programming and provide outstanding service to our Mandarin-speaking customers. This dynamic role combines working with our rentals team, executing marketing initiatives and working as a kayaking instructor, offering a unique opportunity to build connections both on and off the water. You will help renters, develop outreach campaigns, and lead kayaking programs in Mandarin.

We are hiring for one seasonal position that includes evening and weekend work. The role is funded by Canada Summer Jobs, so applicants must meet eligibility requirements (details below).

**About Us**

Jericho Beach Kayak has been offering high-quality kayaking lessons, rentals, and summer camps at one of Vancouver’s best waterfront locations for over 40 years. Located within the Jericho Sailing Centre, we are committed to creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for our staff and customers. We are excited to grow our Mandarin-language offerings, fostering meaningful connections with Vancouver’s Mandarin-speaking community.

Our team includes over 45 Instructors and Guides and 15 rental staff each season. Join us and help us expand our reach while inspiring a love of kayaking and the outdoors

**What You Will Do**

Customer Service & Rentals (~50%):

- Work as a regular rentals team member. -Please refer to our Rental Team Job Description for full details on that component of the role
- Assist Mandarin-speaking renters, providing equipment, safety information, and outstanding customer care.
- Support smooth rental operations by helping with bookings and maintaining equipment.

Outreach and Marketing (~25%):

- Develop and execute marketing campaigns to promote Mandarin-language programs.
- Create promotional materials in Mandarin and English, including social media posts, flyers, and more.
- Represent Jericho Beach Kayak at local events to connect with the Mandarin-speaking community.

Program Delivery (~25%):

- Lead kayaking programs for Mandarin-speaking participants, ensuring a safe and engaging experience.
- Provide on-water instruction, fostering skill-building and confidence among participants.

**You are a Good Fit if You**:

- **Qualify for Canada Summer Jobs funding**:which means you have to be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment and be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred
- **Have a Passion for Kayaking and the Outdoors**, with an interest in connecting with the Mandarin-speaking community.
- **Are Bilingual in Mandarin and English** with solid communication skills in both languages.
- **Have Great Customer Service Skills**such as being **f**riendly, professional, and excellent at in-person communication and problem-solving.
- **Are Physically Fit** and comfortable repeatedly lifting and carrying 50 lbs.
- **Are a Team Player** who is self-motivated, detail-oriented, and proactive.
- **Have Kayaking Certifications or Experience** and willing to obtain: Paddle Canada Instructor certification SKGABC Level 1 Guide certification (opportunities to achieve some certifications are available through Jericho Beach Kayak) and First Aid and CPR training, as required by instructor/guiding certification
- **Have Marketing Skills** or an interest in learning, including content creation and community outreach experience.
- **Are Available to Work Weekends**including allstatutory holidays and evenings.

**Schedule and Availability**
- This is a full time role from June through August.
- You are required to work every weekend either 8:30 AM-3:00 PM or 2:45 PM-9:30 PM.
- Weekday work is flexible and depends on whether you will join the rentals team, the instructor team or do administrative and marketing work during that shift.
- If desired part-time work in rentals or as instructors is available in May and September.

**Pre-requisites & Training**:
You need to be certified as a Paddle Canada Instructor or SKGABC Guide. If you are not certified yet we provide training free of charge:

- Combined Paddle Canada Basic & Level 1 Skills: May 12-14 (9am-4pm)
- Paddle Canada Basic Instructor Course: May 23-25 (9am-5pm)

Additionally, you are required to be certified with Standard First Aid (at your cost) and become a member with Paddle Canada ($99 membership fee)

You will also be required to be available for the (paid) rental training on June 11 & 12
