**Position Purpose**

About the Opportunity:
Shell Canada is seeking a Control Systems Specialist (also known as Systems Engineer internally) as part of a multidisciplinary team. This role will involve acting as the owner of Automation Systems, networks, hardware, and software.

As a Systems Engineer/Technologist, you will be responsible for hands-on technical support and maintenance of digital systems, computer and electronic systems, and communications systems within the site. This includes DCS (Distributed Control Systems), SIS (Safety Instrumented Systems), PLC (Programmable Logic Controllers), hardwired and fiber optic networks and switches, alarm systems, tank gauging systems, vibration monitoring systems, security systems, and other industrial automation systems.

**Accountabilities**:

- Administration and Management of the Plant DCS & PLC systems to meet reliability targets
- Ensure that any modifications impacting the Plant DCS & PLC systems maintain Asset Integrity
- Provide advice regarding competency development amongst the maintenance craftsmen and operating personnel regarding the Plant DCS & PLC systems
- Actively and directly monitoring and maintaining Automation Systems, networks, hardware, and software.
- Lead the Scotford Automation Systems support plan, including day-to-day maintenance and troubleshooting, call out support, vacation coverage, and emergency recovery preparedness
- Actively support critical activity of obsolescence and lifecycle management, providing input and expertise
- Develop upgrade projects to satisfy obsolescence and lifecycle commitments to meet reliability targets

**Skills & Requirements**:

- Must have legal authorization to work in Canada on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
- Engineering Degree or Technologist Diploma
- Eligible for Professional status from APEGA as a P.Eng. or P.L.(Eng)
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience doing a similar role in an industrial facility
- Ability to work effectively within a multi-discipline team such as Engineering, Projects, Maintenance, & Operations
- Familiarity with maintenance practices, project scope development, turnaround, and long-term planning
- Coordinate with System Vendors, such as Honeywell or/and Schneider

Technical Skills
- Proficient in administrating Foxboro I/A and/or Honeywell Experion PKS control system(s) is required
- Familiarity with computer hardware/software/firmware, networking, cabling, and fiber optics
- Proven, hands-on System Integration experience
- Good understanding of Control System Security concepts as they relate to DCS

Preferred
- Knowledge of Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS), such as Honeywell Safety Manager and Triconex
- Knowledge of large-capacity, high-availability network storage solutions.
- Knowledge of PI Historian (including its interfaces).
- Knowledge of OPC technologies.
- Knowledge of emerging systems technologies, such as OPAF/OPAS (Open Platform Automation Framework/Systems)
- Backup and Restore solution management knowledge including emergency recovery plans.
- Proven, hands-on experience managing large scale Windows systems including thin-clients, virtualization technologies, such as Hyper-V and VMWare, and advanced Windows domain administration and troubleshooting skills
- Knowledge of Modicon PLC systems
- Good knowledge of safe work practices and engineering obligations such as MOC
