Together we are more than 5,000 dedicated faculty, librarians and staff supporting the University of Victoria’s diverse academic programs, world-class research and commitment to civic engagement. - _Indigenous Peoples_ **The salary range for this position is**: - **Recruitment range: $69,052- $76,129** starting salary determined by the PEA Collective Agreement. - **Performance range: $89,791** salary range ceiling is available through annual performance increases. - Job Summary Reporting to the Manager, Education and Training, the Coordinator, Indigenous Initiatives (CII) is a member of the Residence Education team. The CII is responsible for the coordination, implementation, and maintenance of educational initiatives in Residence that support Indigenous students and Indigenous initiatives. The primary responsibilities are the oversight and management of the Indigenous Student Lounge and supporting the Indigenous Living Learning Community. The CII will also assist with Orientation activities, resident focused leadership and engagement programs, and campus events occurring in Residence. The CII will work with campus partners (e.g.: Indigenous and Academic Community Engagement, the Office of Student Life, The Health, and Wellness Centre etc.) and community organizations to deliver programs, connect residents with on-campus opportunities, and promote the UVic Indigenous Plan, the Strategic Framework, and Strategic Enrolment Management Plan in the residence context. This position will provide some individual support to Indigenous students living in residence in conjunction with campus partners and Residence colleagues. Of critical importance to this position is an intimate knowledge of Indigenous ways of knowing and being. In-depth understanding of historical perspective, cultural protocols, and the campus landscape is required to respectfully, and successfully work with students across diverse Indigenous populations and cultures. The CII will supervise student staff working in the Indigenous Student Lounge and will provide direction to the Residence Education Community Leaders and Senior Community Leaders, specifically with regards to implementation of Indigenous initiatives and other educational programming, as well as culturally relevant Indigenous student support. This position may also supervise co-op and work study students as required. This position will oversee special projects in Residence Services related to Indigenization and decolonization and will work collaboratively with units and leaders within the department to address barriers and improve the resident experience. This will include the need for complex communication, efficient project management, and tactful relationship management. The CII may be required to work some evenings and weekends at peak periods. - Job Requirements A level of education, training, and experience equivalent to an undergraduate degree plus three (3) years of experience in program development, implementation, and event planning for students in higher education or similar environment, Indigenous education, or equivalent. Knowledge requirements include: - Knowledge of cultural protocols, history, and cultural values of Indigenous peoples. - Knowledge and understanding regarding Indigenous post-secondary education and Indigenous issues as they relate to education and post-secondary institutions. - Demonstrated experience with program coordination, implementation, assessment, and administrative experience particularly in higher education and residence programs. - Experience providing support to individuals and referrals to relevant resources. - Experience creating and monitoring budgets. - Proficiency with basic computer programs and systems (i.e., Microsoft Word, Excel, Teams, Power Point, etc.). - Knowledge and ability to work effectively with student volunteers and staff and to provide coaching, leadership and support to undergraduate students, particularly Indigenous students.
