**COORDINATOR, INDIGENOUS RELATIONS** Victoria BC Ferries recognizes that we operate in the territory of over 80 First Nations who have cared for the land and waters up and down the coast of British Columbia since time immemorial. **The Opportunity** The Indigenous Relations Coordinator supports day-to-day aspects of relationship building activities with First Nations including regular communications, meetings, engagement opportunities, and issues response. You lead the logístical planning and execution of meetings and community events, including meeting minutes and reporting on outcomes. You are responsible for the development of materials to support policy and briefing development, engagements, events, issues management, and other team efforts, e.g. quarterly data reports, presentations, accessible PDFs, accessible Word documents, briefing notes, etc., and works collaboratively across departments to gather information and coordinate materials and events as appropriate. **The Role** Reporting to the Manager, Indigenous Relations, you add value and are energized by key areas of oversight such as: - Supporting members of the Indigenous Relations team in corresponding and connecting with coastal First Nations. - Supporting members of the Indigenous Relations team in gathering, understanding, reporting, resolving (when possible) and responding to First Nation-specific concerns and considerations. - Assisting with relationship building with First Nations including regular communications, meetings, external in-person and digital engagements, external events and supports issues responses as required. - Supporting internal and external engagement outreach including coordinating working groups; developing materials for in-person and digital engagement; planning, executing, and reporting on engagement events; and coordinating timelines and budget/billing requirements for external engagements. - Supporting cultural recognition and community events including liaising and collaborating with First Nations, arranging for venue, catering or special accommodations, and collaborating with the communication department on any photo or video content or media release. - Developing materials to support engagements and external events, written responses, issues management, and other communications efforts, e.g. quarterly data reports, PowerPoint, briefing notes, meeting notes. - Working collaboratively across all departments to gather, coordinate and share information, get approval for materials, develop or innovate processes and maintains good relationships to advance work. - Maintaining accurate and comprehensive engagement and consultation records and tracking to support project-related Crown consultation with First Nations. - Maintaining accurate and up-to-date records needed for engagements and planning, and can prioritize multiple projects and tasks in a fast-paced environment. **What you bring to the team** You have a Bachelor's degree in a related field. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. You bring 1-3 years of experience working in administration, engagement, project coordination, or project management. In addition, you have 1-3 years of experience working with or for a First Nation or Indigenous organization. You also have knowledge of guiding documents such as the United Nations Declaration of the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP), Canada’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission Calls to Action, the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (DRIPA), and the Declaration Action Plan, as well as proficiency with Microsoft suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
