**The Opportunity**:
The Human Resources Assistant plays a key role in supporting multiple areas of the HR function including human resources administration, benefits administration, orientation and onboarding and recruitment and selection.
The Human Resources Assistant is the HR lead for new hire orientation and onboarding training and also takes on other HR related projects to support the team and grow and develop as an HR professional.
**Key Accountabilities**:
**Human Resources Administration**
- Provides direction and ongoing support to new employees; familiarizes employees with Company policies, procedures, vision and values.
- Facilitates weekly Orientation & Onboarding presentation for new drivers and new office and maintenance employees.
- Using Excel and/or various HR systems, prepares and maintains accurate and detailed reports (e.g. performance appraisal schedule and completion rates; open and filled requisitions report; parental leave of absence; employee status).
- Produces, maintains and updates Company-wide Organizational Charts.
- Processes purchase orders for the department.
**Benefits Administration**
- Develops effective communication tools to enhance the employees’ understanding of the Company’s group benefits package.
- Administers and maintains out-of-province and out-of-country benefits coverage.
- Works closely with HR service providers to administer all benefit enrollments, terminations and revisions for eligible employees.
- Reconciles and processes monthly benefits billings for all eligible employees.
- Partners with Payroll department to contact employees regarding benefit payment arrears status.
**Recruitment & Selection**
- Coordinates the hire requisition process in JazzHR, our Applicant Tracking System.
- Partners with Human Resources team to provide recruitment assistance for open roles as needed.
- Selects, screens and shortlists applicants for interviews for all levels of roles.
- Schedules and attends panel interviews.
- Conducts background checks for all positions.
- Prepares employment contracts and secures required approvals; prepares offer letter packages.
**Other Duties**
- Provides support to the team on human resources functions, issues and projects.
- Performs other duties as required.
**What You Need To Be Successful In This Role**:
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in Human Resources, Business Administration or a related field.
- Attained, or actively working towards Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) designation.
- One (1) to two (2) years human resources, benefits administration or recruiting experience.
- Intermediate user of Microsoft Office software (Excel, Word and PowerPoint).
- Experience in the transportation industry considered to be an asset.
- Detail oriented, with the ability to effectively prioritize and multi-task in a busy environment.
- Ability to act with discretion in dealing with sensitive and confidential information.
- Strong verbal communication skills, relationship building and interpersonal skills.
- Proactive attitude; takes initiative to prevent issues and has a bias towards action.
- Well-organized, enthusiastic, professional and a positive team member.
