Southwest Ontario Aboriginal Health Access Centre (SOAHAC) is a diverse, dynamic, multiservice Indigenous health and wellness agency. We strive to provide quality, wholistic health services by sharing and promoting traditional and western health practices to enable people to live in a more balanced state of well-being. SOAHAC provides services to Indigenous people including those who live on and off reserve, status, non-status, Inuit, and Metis within the Southwest, Waterloo Wellington and Erie St Clair regions. SOAHAC has a mandate of ensuring that health services are accessible, of high quality, and are culturally appropriate. It is SOAHAC’s objective to build health care capacity within Indigenous communities. Currently, we are seeking the services of a Client Support Worker to join our interdisciplinary staff team to work at our 493 Dundas Street, London Site.
Reporting to the Integrated Care Manager, London site, the Client Support Worker assists in providing a positive, welcoming environment for community members, individual clients, their families, and staff.
**Requirements**:
- Degree or diploma in Social Services, Child and Youth Worker, Social Worker, or other relevant program of study
- Training and experience with CPI/Trauma-Informed approaches
- Experience working with First Nation, Inuit and Metis (FNIM) people in community-based settings and fluency in a local language would be considered asset.
- Knowledge of Indigenous harm reduction as well as some substance use training an asset
- Previous clinic and outreach experience an asset
- Previous security experience an asset
- Able to maintain confidential and sensitive information
- Must be able to obtain & maintain a current and clear police check as a condition of employment
- Up-to-date immunizations and records
- Able to work will with mínimal supervision
- Previous security experience is an asset
- Ability to work in a team environment
- Positions where driving is not required: access to reliable transportation
- Must be able to obtain & maintain a current and clear police check as a condition of employment
- Willingness to participate in Indigenous Cultural Safety Training, teachings and ceremonies.
- Up to date immunizations and records
**Responsibilities**
- Greeting and creating a warm and inviting reception for clients
- Assisting clients in wayfinding and mobility support
- Performing harm reduction services inside and outside the building
- Assisting clients with homelessness solution and service navigation
- Must be respectful, empathetic and patient with clients
- Assisting primary care when required
- Ability to communicate openly and clearly to clients
- Collaborate with the healthcare team
- Other tasks to support the staff team as assigned
This job may require additional responsibilities and duties as assigned by Southwest Ontario Aboriginal Health Access Centre.
