**Job Description: French Tutor**

Are you passionate about explain the French language with youth from Grade 5 to 1st year University? Large Tutoring Inc. is run by a UBC Chemical & Biological Engineering graduate committed to bringing top-level education to families in the Metro Vancouver area. We are looking for 1-2 individuals who are capable of conducting 60-90 minute tutoring sessions (sometimes 2+ hours) in all aspects of French, including written and verbal, at all levels (AP and IB included).

We’re looking for role models who share their passion for French, who can interact effectively through online technology such as Zoom and in-person, and who can support, encourage and instill energy and enthusiasm into challenging topics. Someone who strives to make learning fun and has the ability to connect with their students. At Large Tutoring Inc., we value individuals who are adaptable, trustworthy, qualified, modern, and friendly. Our philosophy ensures that students do not merely memorize situations, but understand why they made the choices they did. In doing so, we ensure our students are able to excel in similar but different circumstances.
- Teach a variety of students varying from grade 5 to 1st year University students for up to 10 hours a week.
- Be available for introductory meetings, Zoom video conferences, and phone calls with prospective students.
- Create brief lesson plans, “brush up” on any topics that will be covered in lessons, and assign homework materials for students (not worksheets, but suggested questions from the student's textbook, etc.).
- Be available to work during non-traditional hours. Since many students have school requirements, sessions may run into the evening (up to 10:00 PM) and/or take place on weekends. This will depend on the students on your roster and their availability. All sessions only take place at mutually agreed upon times and locations between the student and the tutor.
- Adapt, encourage and provide feedback to students (and to parents) to achieve real life results.

**Requirements**:

- Higher Level education in English or related fields (Preferred: Bachelor’s Degrees or higher, but degrees programs in-progress are welcome to apply)
- Proven proficiency in English and French Writing, Comprehension, and Communication.
- Extreme levels of enthusiasm, patience, kindness, and empathy for teaching and for students across diverse socioeconomic backgrounds - the MOST important aspect. We also love bubbly personalities that contain enough energy for 2
- Background in tutoring, teaching or mentoring is ideal (but desire to help and to succeed is also important).
- Experience working and willingness to work with students with learning difficulties or disabilities (ie. Gifted Learning Disabled, Dyslexia, Dyscalculia, ADD, ADHD, or students on the spectrum).
- Excellent communication skills - in person and online - we want students to have fun
- Work well independently and the ability to facilitate a group discussion
- Strong multitasking and organizational abilities. Scheduling is something that the tutor is largely responsible for and inaccurate schedules can cause confusion.
- Must have a computer/tablet with video conferencing capabilities, as well as a quiet space to video conference with their students OR be willing to do mostly in-person lessons. Preference will be given to individuals who have a tablet and stylus of some kind for online lessons - though this is not a requirement.
- Flexible schedule and mindset. Our students often require a flexible schedule and we hope they will be flexible with us in return. We try to keep these accommodations within reason, but they are inevitable in this position.
