New Directions** **is a social service agency offering a wide range of resources and services that foster people’s hopes and dreams in their communities.
Child Home Services **(CHS)** is one of the many service areas within New Directions. This service area offers a range of home supports (i.e., family supports, care provider homes, group care homes, individualized homes, independent living, mentored living) to children, youth, and families who are dealing with challenges related to the experience of trauma and/or living with a disability.
We are currently seeking a Case Manager to join our team within the Family Connections/Family Supports Programs. This position would require supporting care providers (foster homes) and kinship homes.
**Responsibilities will include**:
- Provide support to transition children and youth into a home where they can have strong roots, be loved, and develop. This transition can involve reuniting the children with their family and community, or helping them root in an alternative place, with significant others around that will support them, when they do not have relatives to go back to.
- Supervision of care provider homes (foster homes) which includes ensuring compliance for all Indigenous, Federal, and Provincial laws and regulations including but not limited to Child Home Services’ mission, visions & values; Bill C92; Residential Care and Licensing Standards; CFS regulations.
- Coordinating services to meet the needs of the child/youth including assessments, goal setting, finding resources, making referrals, advocating for services, and securing funding.
- Building relationships with the child/youth, their families and communities and establishing or maintaining connections with culture of origin.
- Directing support staff to meet support the children/youth with goals and providing feedback for performance management.
- Coordinating and chairing multi-disciplinary system meetings; liaising with other professionals such government departments, school systems, medical professionals, legal systems, clinical teams, etc.
- Professional level administrative functions including report writing, funding proposals, support plans, assessments, and referrals.
- Managing crisis situations and developing response protocols, providing support on-call after hours on a rotating basis.
- Support families/kinship placement care providers in our Family Support program to achieve goals, develop skill and access community resources/education
- Meeting with families in their home to develop support plans
- Supervising, hiring, and scheduling of direct support workers based on the needs of the families receiving supports
- Completing timesheets, mileage and other accounting reimbursements for families being supported
**Education/Experience Required**:
- B.S.W./B.A. or related social services education such as Family Therapy, Human Ecology, and Indigenous Studies
- Trauma Informed Care
- Indigenous history, Colonization effects, Truth and Reconciliation Commission Calls to Action and CFS reform in Canada
- 3-5 years experience working with children in care
- A combination of education and experience may be considered
- First Aid certification, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training, Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST), and Mental Health First Aid certification would be considered assets.
**Skills Required**:
- Supervisory, training and coaching skills; relationship building, boundary setting and performance management skills
- Excellent communication skills including mediating difficult conversations, conflict resolution
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 and Outlook including Word, Excel, and SharePoint
- Excellent time management, organizational and efficiency skills
Travel required to locations to multiple locations within Winnipeg. Driver’s license and vehicle required. Must have flexibility in schedule as some evening and weekend availability will be required.
Preference will be given to Indigenous applicants with previous experiential knowledge of the Child Welfare System in Manitoba.
The salary range for this 70-hour bi-weekly position is $26.28 to $33.90 per hour, dependent upon education and/or experience. A full benefits package (which include Health and Dental Benefits, Long Term Disability Benefits, and a Pension Plan) is provided to regular full-time staff.
