**Position**

**Duties**
- Responsible for the day-to-day operation of undergraduate biology and environmental science labs, including preparation of all materials needed for the labs which the Supervisor has designated as this technician’s responsibility
- Set up and take down experiments for the labs which have been designated as the technician’s responsibility, and assist the other technician with their lab set-up and take-down as necessary or expedient
- Maintenance of laboratory supplies and inventory, placing orders and verifying receipt of all biology and environmental science materials
- Responsible for the operation and maintenance of biology/environmental science lab equipment
- Oversee biology/environmental lab expenditures, makes recommendations for items in the Departmental budget
- Responsible for all chemical and biological safety issues in the labs including maintenance of Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) for all chemicals, biosafety records, annual inspections, etc.
- Provide feedback to departmental administrators regarding scheduling of labs
- Prepare reagents, cultures, culture media, etc.
- Gather specimens, slides, and equipment, and set up and organize this material in the lab
- Provide technical support to professors, lab instructors, and students
- Maintain labs
- Other duties as needed and pertinent to this position

**Qualifications**
- Post-secondary education with a minimum of a Master’s degree in a relevant field or discipline
- 1 year of experience in performing standard and molecular biology lab activities
- Experience with level 2 biological hazards and safe handling procedures
- Previous experience with providing technical support for a lab is considered an asset
