Assistant Manager, Food Services

**Overview**
The Assistant Manager, Food Services supports the daily operations of the kitchen, ensuring food quality, safety, and compliance with health regulations. They assist in managing kitchen volunteers, maintaining inventory, collecting donations, creating menus, training staff and volunteers across the organization on food preparation and handling, and ensuring food is prepared for the drop-in and supportive housing programs. This role reports directly to the Manager, Food Services, and works closely with staff and volunteers in all programs to maintain seamless kitchen operations and exceptional service delivery.
**Responsibilities**
- Lead the planning and preparation of meals according to Canada Food Guide, Food Handling Guidelines, and Shepherds of Good Hope standards.
- Ensure food preparation and presentation meet quality and safety standards.
- Oversee kitchen cleanliness and ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
- Assist in maintaining and updating meal schedules and menus.
- Lead in supervising, training, and supporting kitchen staff and volunteers in all programs across SGH.
- Foster a positive team environment and resolve minor staff concerns.Help monitor inventory levels and order supplies as needed.
- Receive and inspect deliveries for accuracy and quality.
- Assist in maintaining organized storage areas and minimizing food waste.
- Enforce sanitation and hygiene standards in line with local health regulations.
- Maintain accurate records of food temperatures, cleaning schedules, and safety checks.
- Participate in health and safety training sessions and emergency procedures.
- Assist in maintaining kitchen records, including food costs, and inventory logs.
- Support in preparing reports for management as required.
**Qualifications**:
- Culinary diploma or equivalent experience required.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in a commercial kitchen or similar setting.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a supervisory position
- Strong culinary and food preparation skills.
- Knowledge of kitchen health and safety regulations.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to lead, mentor, and motivate team members.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Food Handler Certification (mandatory).
- First Aid/CPR (preferred)
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
- Must by at least 18 years of age
- Able to lift up to 25kg.
- Able to read text and communicate orally in English. Ability to communicate in other languages is considered an asset.
**WORKING CONDITIONS**
The regular working schedule is 8 hours/day for 5 days/week, which, depending on scheduled shifts, may include weekends. There is an expectation of flexibility in scheduling work around program needs that may occur from time to time during evenings and weekends. There is an expectation that the staff will manage their time accordingly and utilize flexible working hours where needed to make up for the times where exceptional hours may apply.
Pay: $60,540.00-$73,513.00 per year
