Manager, IT Infrastructure and Operations

**Purpose**:
York University's School of the Arts, Media, Performance & Design (AMPD) is one of North America's premier educational and research institutions for the visual, performing and digital arts. Reporting to the Executive Officer, the Manager of IT Infrastructure and Operations (I&O) is responsible for the delivery of all IT infrastructure and related IT operations used to enable capabilities and services across AMPD. The Manager, IT I&O brings current knowledge and future vision for transforming the IT I&O function including its strategy, service offerings, and workforce. As a key member of the AMPD operations and management team, this role contributes to the development and execution of the school wide IT strategy and is responsible for ensuring the IT strategy is fully aligned with AMPD's Strategic Academic Plan, and the broader directions of York's central UIT unit. The Manager is responsible for positioning infrastructure and operations to deliver compelling academic and research business value.
**Education**:
Bachelor degree in Computer Engineering/Computer Science/Software Engineering/Electrical Engineering/Information Systems, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
**Experience**:
7 years relevant experience, including at least 3 years at the management level, leading and supporting IT infrastructure. Experience must include network design and administration, data center operations, database administration, and systems programming and administration, deployment, systems lifecycle management and infrastructure planning and operations.
**Skills**:
Knowledge
Demonstrated knowledge of IT governance, risk management, policy development and implementation and regulatory/legal issues.
Demonstrated knowledge of contract management, procurement practices and negotiation strategies.
Demonstrated knowledge of: SQL Server, MySQL, ASP, JavaScript, HTML, XML, PHP, Oracle, Moodle, Linux, Application Programming Interfaces.
Technical knowledge of desktop and server operating systems (Microsoft Windows, MacOS, Linux). Database analysis, design, and development (e.g., SQL, Access). TCP/IP networking, management tools such as SCCM and WSUS.
Sound knowledge of information privacy and security, compliance, data classifications, authentication and authorization management and cyber security.
Knowledge of the goals and timelines of SSRP.
A proven track record of effective human resources management and development in a unionized environment.
**Skills**:Superior leadership, organizational, presentation, interpersonal and decision-making skills.
Strong customer service orientation and ability to work with diverse range of people including: University administrators, faculty and researchers, technical representatives of other computing units and vendors.
Demonstrated ability in the following areas: managing multiple projects and tasks, ability to adapt to frequently changing priorities, exercising creativity and initiative, budgetary skills, dealing effectively with people while maintaining confidentiality and providing a consistently high level of service, superior attention to detail, tact and discretion is critical in consulting others and building collaborative relationships as well as working independently, ability to assess problem situations, recognize issues and use good judgment to devise creative solutions.
Advanced workstation hardware and software support, including demonstrated project management and continuous improvement.
Ability to take initiative and demonstrate innovation and creativity in projects.
Ability to interpret and implement University and School's computing guidelines, teaching & learning plans, and priorities.
Ability to handle several tasks simultaneously through good time management.
Excellent technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Ability in administering multi-platform servers, desktops, peripherals, troubleshooting performance and security.
