The Halton Regional Police Service contributes to the safety and well-being of more than 620,000 residents in Halton Region which includes the Towns of Milton, Halton Hills and Oakville, and the City of Burlington. **About the Role: How You will Contribute to The Service**
The Halton Regional Police Service, in partnership with the Ministry of Children and Youth Services, is offering the Youth in Policing Initiative (Y.I.P.I.) Program to address the growing needs of our youth. This eight-week summer paid employment opportunity is available to youth aged 15 to 18 from Priority Populations who reflect the cultural diversity of Halton Region.
**Here’s What You’ll Get to Do**:
**The YIPI student**will**interact with, and learn about, the many aspects of policing, have the opportunity to serve their community, and learn about leadership and teamwork. The mandate of this program is:
- To provide a safe and positive summer employment opportunity for youth that is reflective of the cultural diversity of the community
- To enhance relationships between police and the communities they serve by developing a positive working relationship
- To promote youth participation and exposure to the work environment through diverse, educational, and productive work assignments with the police service that will impact the community
- To promote the Halton Regional Police Service as an employer of choice
**Is Y.I.P.I. for You?**
**Applicants must meet the following criteria**:
- Be a resident of Halton Region
- Must be age 15 -18 years (as of June 30, 2025) who are reflective of the cultural diversity of the community
- Must not have any criminal charges pending before the court
- Are legally eligible to work in Canada
- Must be a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident
- Seek work experience / job skills training
- Would benefit from this developmental opportunity regarding leadership and civic responsibility
- Successfully complete the recruitment / background check process
- Agree to a mentoring relationship with our fellow officers and/or civilian members
- Will be returning to a Halton based high school in September 2025
- Available to attend the entire full eight-week program
- Must not have previously participated in any YIPI program
- Note: The successful applicant will need to pass a background check to the satisfaction of the Service which will include with verification of endorsement/recommendation, and a criminal background screen._

**Hourly Rate**:This is a paid student position ($17.20 per hour for an 8-week term (July 2, 2025 to August 22, 2025) contract
**Working Hours**: Up to 35 hours per week: Monday - Friday. 8:00am to 4:00pm
**Location**: This position is based out of Oakville or Burlington facility. Facility TBD
**Transportation**: Transportation: YIPI students will be responsible for their own transportation to and from the location at the beginning and end of their workday.
**Other**:It is the responsibility of the YIPI students to supply their own snacks, lunch and water
