Nature and Scope
The Winter Day Camp Counsellor will be responsible for delivering a fun, safe, and positive experience for a group of 8-13 children. The camp counsellor plays a crucial role in ensuring positive experiences for participants by delivering high-quality, mission-based programs. Responsibilities will also include planning portions of the daily schedule. Counsellors will follow all YMCA policies and procedures and child protection guidelines.
Work Schedule
**Temporary Contract**: December 23, 26, 27, 28, and 30, 2024, and January 2 and 3, 2025
**Shift Hours**: 8 am - 4 am or 9 am - 5 pm

**Location**: YMCA of Oakville (410 Rebecca Street, Oakville)

**Responsibilities**:

- Provide direct supervision to a group of children and youth each day, ensuring each camper has an incredible experience
- Plan and deliver fun, age-appropriate programs following specified program guidelines
- Build rapport and manage group behavior to ensure an emotionally and physically safe environment
- Ensure the delivery of high-quality camp programs while safeguarding the well-being of campers
- Enthusiastically participate in all camp activities, including programs and special events
- Recognize the uniqueness and interests of all children and youth, assisting them in successfully achieving their goals at camp
- Access program resources and seek support from the Coordinator to deliver a wide range of age-appropriate programs
- Maintain professionalism when handling sensitive and confidential situations
- Complete reports as required (attendance, incident, etc.)
- Act as a positive role model for children, youth, and fellow staff
- Model appropriate behavior in all interactions with co-workers, YMCA staff, and the public, ensuring actions align with YMCA core values

**Requirements**:

- Must be 15 years old or older
- Minimum 1 year of experience in planning and leading programs for children and youth
- Experience in a summer day camp or residential camp program is an asset
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Effective conflict resolution skills
- Strong teamwork and leadership abilities
- Standard First Aid and CPR ‘C’ certification
- Valid (within the last 12 months) Police check with vulnerable sector screening for those 18 years old and over
