Are you passionate about empowering autistic individuals and families through direct support, advocacy, and inclusive programming? Autism Nova Scotia is seeking a full-time Autism Support Coordinator to lead operations and engagement efforts at our Annapolis Valley Chapter.
This vital role connects individuals and caregivers to services, builds community awareness, and drives local programs and partnerships that support inclusion and autonomy across the lifespan.
**About the Role**
As Autism Support Coordinator, you’ll be the face of Autism Nova Scotia in the Annapolis Valley region — providing direct support to individuals and families while working collaboratively with local partners to build autism-friendly communities.
From delivering inclusive programs and facilitating access to services, to leading fundraising and coordinating volunteers, you’ll bring together people, resources, and knowledge to support autistic individuals across the region.
**Key Responsibilities**
**Support & Navigation**
- Provide direct, individualized support to autistic individuals and their families, from early years through adulthood.
- Help clients navigate complex systems, including health, education, funding, and community-based supports.
- Assist with advocacy efforts and informed decision-making.
**Community Engagement & Outreach**
- Serve as the primary liaison to local service providers and community partners.
- Coordinate public education and autism awareness presentations.
- Promote the Chapter through social media and community events.
**Volunteer & Program Coordination**
- Recruit, train, and support Chapter volunteers.
- Lead inclusive programming (e.g., summer camp, workshops, social groups).
- Plan, implement, and evaluate regional initiatives and activities.
**Administration & Reporting**
- Maintain accurate records and case documentation using ShareVision and other platforms.
- Prepare reports, needs assessments, and monthly/annual reviews.
- Oversee part-time facilitation staff as required.
**Qualifications**
**Education & Experience**
- Diploma or degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
- Minimum 2 years of experience supporting individuals or families in the autism/disability community.
- Knowledge of autism and neurodiversity across the lifespan.
- Experience with volunteer or program coordination is an asset.
**Skills & Competencies**
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with an empathetic, trauma-informed approach.
- Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
- Confident facilitator and community speaker.
- Proficient with Microsoft 365, Zoom, and data entry/reporting systems.
- Experience in fundraising and basic financial management is an asset.
**Certifications & Requirements**
- Valid Nova Scotia Driver’s License and access to a reliable, insured vehicle.
- Current (or willingness to obtain): First Aid & CPR, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention.
- Clear Criminal Record Check (including Vulnerable Sector) and Child Abuse Registry Check.
**Working Conditions**
- Primarily based out of the Regional Autism Centre in Kentville.
- Local travel required throughout the Annapolis Valley.
- Occasional evening and weekend hours for community events or meetings.
- Work includes in-office, community-based, and remote components.
