Floral and Produce Gardener

Sharon Museum & Gardens (formerly the Sharon Temple National Historic Site & Museum) is an open-air museum with eight heritage buildings and two interpretive buildings located on-site. The Museum is located in the heart of East Gwillimbury on four acres and features three heritage gardens in addition to the collection of heritage buildings on-site.

In 2018, the Museum received funding to create a sustainable community garden. We are looking for someone to join our team this season to maintain the vegetable and floral gardens on site and support other Museum projects such as special events, tours, and site maintenance.

**Primary Job Functions**:

- Lead the planning and maintenance of the vegetable gardens on site during the 2025 summer season.
- Assume responsibility and care for the chicken coop and chickens housed on site, as well as the butterfly and worm gardens.
- Support the maintenance of other gardens on the grounds, such as the Doan Herb Garden and the Hope & Truth Reflection Garden.
- Collaborate with museum and summer camp staff in the development of nature-based and environmental programming for youth aged 6-12 by utilizing the gardens, chickens, and Museum grounds.
- Support the preparation and implementation of special events throughout the summer and fall.
- Provide front-of-house services, including welcoming visitors, processing admissions, and conducting gift shop sales when necessary.

**General Duties**:

- Maintain the Museum’s garden and landscaping on a daily basis.
- Provide site maintenance and set-up as required.
- Support other staff members where necessary with their tasks.
- Work with volunteers to coordinate garden maintenance.
- Other tasks as required.

**Qualifications**:

- Currently enrolled or graduated from studies in a related field, such as horticulture, food, farming, sustainable gardening, community gardening, or heritage gardening.
- Previous experience working with the public in a structured setting, in a paid and/or volunteer capacity.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs.
- Ability to work with animals such as chickens.
- Ability to drive a lawnmower is an asset.
- Must possess or be willing to train for Standard First Aid and CPR.
- Must possess or be willing to obtain a Vulnerable Sector Screening.
- Be prepared to work a variety of shifts, including weekends and evenings.

This position is a full-time temporary contract, 35 hours per week, and the contract is for 16 weeks beginning May 5th, 2025, though it can be extended through to October 20th.
