Maintaining our provincial infrastructure is no small job. We're recruiting for a Manager of Fleet Services to lead our Miller Lake Mechanical Branch.
The Fleet Services Division of the Department of Public Works supports the back bone of our provincial highway infrastructure. We are located at Miller Lake, the central Fleet Services hub of the province. At Miller Lake, we are pivotal in ensuring the equipment used to maintain, repair, and build Nova Scotia's 23,000 kilometers of roads and highways, and 4,100 bridges, is always ready to go.

About Our Opportunity
As the Fleet Services Manager, you are the liaison between the Miller Lake Mechanical Branch and all other Districts in the Province. You are accountable for ensuring that products and services produced in Miller Lake meet and exceed industry, provincial, and federal standards and regulations. Daily, you promote the safe operation and maintenance of department equipment. You will lead and achieve the expectations of internal and external stakeholders by balancing priorities; all the while using your industry expertise and solid planning and coordination abilities to ensure the cost-effective maintenance and repair of department mechanical assets.
Equipment in our shop is critical to maintain our road network and includes specialty skills in hydraulic system design and installation, electrical and electronic control systems, and specialty welding; as such, you are critical in ensuring that new equipment is outfitted to operating requirements.
Primary Accountabilities
**Key responsibilities include**:
supporting snow and ice control activities in all Districts;
managing the division's budget and resources;
leading and participating on various provincial committees (including Policy and Procedure, JOHSE, Labor Management, and Shop Standards);
managing the Occupational Health Safety and Environment Program (including coordinating and chairing the JOHSE Committee);
ensuring Department programs, policies, and procedures are followed by staff;
ensuring the effectiveness and accuracy of the fleet management information system.
Daily, you will work with many department staff including Equipment Operators, Mechanics, and Welders, along with Area Managers, Fleet Services Coordinators, Maintenance Planners who are located throughout the province. To ensure timely repairs and decisions regarding Department equipment, your strong communication skills are critical when building and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders; all whom contribute to the effective maintenance of the provincial road network.
Qualifications and Experience
**You must have previous experience with**:
managing staff performance, budgets and financial reporting and administering acts, regulations, policies and procedures, collective agreements, and specifications containing technical elements.
Experience and/or knowledge of SAP Modules and Fleet Management are considered assets.
