**Job Summary**:

- THE JUNIOR UNDERWRITER WORKS WITHIN ESTABLISHED AUTHORITY AND SERVICE LEVELS HANDLING COMMERCIAL NEW BUSINESS AND POLICIES IN ORDER TO CONTRIBUTE TO A PROFITABLE PORTFOLIO OF BUSINESS.-
Is responsible for the development and successful execution of broker and territory level business plans for an assigned group of brokers in accordance with the regional commercial business plan for profitability, growth, retention and service standards;
-Visits brokers who represent Optimum Insurance Company in order to promote and present the Company’s commercial products, promote profitable growth and retention;
-Makes risk selection decisions within assigned level of authority;
-Develops productive and successful working relationships with assigned brokers.
-Maintains an awareness of market trends, price levels, legal requirements and case law applicable to commercial underwriting;
-Negotiates optimally to develop and maintain a profitable book of business;
- All other related tasks.

**Experience/training**:
Post-secondary degree;
- A minimum of two (2) years of progressive mid-market commercial underwriting or related experience;

**Qualities**/aptitudes**:
Ability to select, underwrite and manage small to intermediate commercial accounts;
-Account development and analysis skills;
Comprehensive ability to understand, respond to, and effectively manage broker/customer concerns;
-Knowledge of competitors and the insurance market;
-Good communication and interpersonal skills;
-Strong organizational, planning and decision making skills;
-Proven negotiation skills;
-Good knowledge and ability to work with computer systems and software such as Excel, Word etc.;
- Good team player.

Please note that this position can be filled either in our Toronto or North Bay Branch.
