**Highlights of the job**
- We have an opportunity for a full-time permanent Analyst, GIS to join our Customer Operations Team working out of the EPCOR Tower in Edmonton, AB.
- Spatial data is everywhere at EPCOR Water Services (EWS). Water and wastewater pipes, manholes and catch basins, fire hydrants: these are just some of the many spatial datasets we use for daily operational, capital, and long-range planning decision making.

In the Analyst, GIS role you are accountable for coordinating tasks related to the maintenance and analysis of EWS spatial data, and the provisioning of datasets and reports that are used to support decision making. Working within the limits set by management, you are also accountable for developing and delivering GIS training to end users, developing and managing a digital library of geographic maps, ensuring GIS database integrity and accuracy, providing expertise in spatial data manipulation and analysis.

**What you’d be responsible for**
- Reporting to the Manager, Geospatial Analytics, your main accountabilities include, but are not limited to:

- Accountable for using GIS tools to analyze and manipulate spatial data to produce maps and reports that support decision making throughout Water Services.
- Providing higher-level technical expertise in the maintenance and analysis of spatial data.
- This includes ensuring that data recording, extraction and analysis is completed within established timelines and aligns to recording rules that maintain data validity, accuracy and referential integrity.
- Working closely with the Manager, Geospatial Analytics to develop, design and deliver GIS related training throughout Water Services.- Accessing and transforming spatial datasets to update existing information, derive new information, or investigate and discover patterns and trends. Executing database queries to support decision making across Water Services.
- Developing and implementing a strategy to systematically correct legacy spatial database errors and discrepancies.
- Working with functional areas across EPCOR Water Services to gather, document and act on requirements that will ensure the use of GIS as an enabling technology to support Situational Awareness strategic plans.
- Identifying gaps, errors or inadequacies in existing business process and making recommendations for improvement to the Manager, Geospatial Analytics.
- Designing digital maps with geographic data: creating shape-files (or equivalent) to merge topographic data with other internal and external data by layering data over a topographical map.
- Maintaining a library of procedures that are used by drafting and GIS analysts to support database recording, database analysis and database reporting.
- Actioning GIS support requests for data updates and maintenance inquires. Investigating and resolving data conflicts and inaccurate issues as they arise.
- Providing support to external communities, operations and/or stakeholders where/when required.

**What’s required to be successful**
- Qualifications, experience and behaviours you possess are:

- Completion of a 2-year Technology diploma in GIS from a recognized post-secondary institution.
- Experience that includes:

- 7+ years demonstrated capability using:

- ETL (Extract-Transform-Load) processes to access, convert and transform datasets to automate data pipelines.
- 3-5 years of demonstrated skill:

- using ArcGIS Enterprise Portal to administer online ESRI content, including creation and maintenance of web-based maps, dashboards, etc.
- developing and delivering GIS training materials for business end users.
- Proven experience:

- in fundamental GIS principles: e.g. geospatial data fundamentals, cartography, geospatial analytics, database design and management, etc.
- working with Oracle relational databases
- using SQL to improve data query performance and to interact with relational databases.
- Exceptional communication and collaboration skills.
- Additionally, some desired assets for the Analyst, GIS to have include:

- Experience with FME, Python or R, MicroStation, MapInfo
- Experience in the utility sector.
