Mercer Peace River has an exciting opportunity for a self-driven, motivated individual to fill the full-time, permanent position of Health and Safety Administrative Assistant. Reporting to the Health and Safety Manager, the Health and Safety Administrative Assistant will provide administrative support to the Health and Safety Resources department.
Roles & Responsibilities
Directing front office activities which include providing site-specific orientations to groups entering the mill, issuing locks and parking passes, issuing fuel keys, and ensuring fuel usage is recorded.
Provide administration support by participating in department meetings, taking meeting minutes, preparing reports, assisting with creating posters and communications for the department, etc.
Promoting safe work attitudes by encouraging and educating others on preventative measures
Promote various mill policies (i.e. smoking, plastic, parking, speed limits, etc.)
Assist Safety Loss Control Technicians with fire suppression system administration, and first-aid room inventory
Assist with housekeeping of the front office and the First Aid Room.
Additional duties as required.
Qualifications and Experience
High School diploma or equivalent.
Post-secondary education in a relevant field (ex. Business Administration, Office Admin Certificate, etc.); or 2+ years of administrative experience working in a safety-focused environment is preferred.
First Aid certification will be considered an asset.
Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact with team members and contractors under pressure while remaining calm, proactive, and efficient.
Ability to present to small audiences and engage with diverse groups.
Experience working with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
The ability to work in an industrial/mill environment.
The ability to ensure confidential information is protected and maintained.
Strong ability to organize and prioritize under pressure.
Willingness to work occasional overtime, including during annual shutdowns and mill upsets.

Compensation is based on experience, qualifications and competency with a starting base annual salary range of $62k ‐ $66k.
