**How you will contribute as part of the TRCA team**:
Under the supervision of the Senior Research Scientist, Green Infrastructure, in the Ecosystem and Climate Science (ECS) team, the Research Analyst will be responsible for providing support and assistance in general research activities including literature reviews, geospatial analysis, data analysis, and report writing. These activities will directly support the ongoing projects related to urban forest studies, natural asset management, watershed planning, and green infrastructure research.
Specifically, this position will undertake qualitative and quantitative research and analysis including assisting in study design, leading field crews, completing spatial and data analysis, and writing technical reports and factsheets to support a range of initiatives related to green infrastructure and urban forestry. The Research Analyst will focus on producing information to support various municipal projects, building applied research partnerships and pursuing external funding opportunities as well as be a technical resource for internal and external partners.
**Major Responsibilities**:
- Conduct geospatial and data analysis as needed for the ongoing above stated projects of the ECS team.
- Compile, QA/QC, analyze, and synthesize data, as required, from a variety of sources to be used in the relevant projects.
- Conduct literature reviews and identify best approaches and methods to inform relevant projects.
- Coordinate/schedule field surveys, including training of seasonal staff or interns in and urban forest monitoring, survey or assessment protocols, and ensuring Health and Safety compliance while in the field.
- Prepare summaries, factsheets, and technical reports for multiple municipal urban forest projects.
- Performs other duties as assigned or required in accordance with departmental, divisional and/or corporate objectives.
**What will you need to succeed**:
- Four (4) year university degree in urban forestry, ecology, biological sciences, environmental science, geography or related discipline.
- University degree at master’s level in urban forestry, ecology, biological sciences, environmental science, geography, or related discipline is considered an asset.
- Two (2) years of experience related to major responsibilities.
- Strong understanding of urban forestry and green infrastructure management principles.
- Demonstrated experience with data compilation, QA/QC, analysis, synthesis, and reporting related to major research projects.
- Experience with conducting geospatial and statistical analysis within the broader context of methods in ecological science.
- Strong project coordination and communication skills
- Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act;
- Valid Ontario driver’s license.
