Hamilton-Wentworth Student Transportation Services Consortium
Hamilton-Wentworth Student Transportation Services (HWSTS) was established by the Hamilton
- Wentworth Catholic District School Board and the Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board and is responsible for the provision of safe, effective and efficient transportation services to approximately 28,000 students and 170 schools for both partner Boards. HWSTS utilizes a number of transportation modes that includes traditional yellow-and-black school buses, school purpose vans and the Hamilton Street Railway Transit. The current school-purpose fleet size is approximately 460 vehicles that travel approximately 35,000 kilometres daily during the school year.

General Manager HWSTS
Reporting to the General Manager, the Operations Supervisor is responsible for overseeing arrangements related to student transportation for regular and specialized services. The Operations Supervisor will oversee the daily operations of the service and is responsible for the supervision, mentorship and providing direction to the Transportation Officers. The Operations Supervisor, as directed by the General Manager, will ensure that the Transportation Officers plan routes and maximize system efficiencies within prescribed parameters set out in the HWSTS policies and procedures, related policies and procedures defined by member School Boards and/or applicable legislative requirements. This position provides support to the General Manager and staff members of HWSTS, member school boards and the school bus operators.
**Description**:
Supervision of Transportation Staff ensuring all planning and project deadlines are met, provide support and mentorship and direct their work
oversee adherence of bus companys contractual items
respond to transportation related inquiries from parents/guardians, school staff, board officials, trustees, etc.
oversee the operation of 500 home to school routes and on-going analysis and oversight of vehicle routing
function at an advanced level with the use of the computerized transportation planning software program
act as a resource for accommodation studies, boundary planning, walking paths and other infrastructure issues
liaise with bus companies as required including adherence to route plans and policies and procedures
all other duties as assigned
**Qualifications and Experience**:
Post-secondary qualifications in planning, geography, GIS or business administration or other related discipline
Ontario Association of School Business Officials (OASBO) certificate in Pupil Transportation an asset
Minimum of three (3) years experience in computer software, GIS and preferably in a transportation or related environment
A minimum of 3 years supervisory experience
Knowledge and familiarity with related legislation applicable to student transportation, including the Highway Traffic Act
Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities
Thorough knowledge of accounting and budgeting procedures
Excellent communication (verbal and written) and presentation skills
Self-starter, able to work with mínimal supervision
Strong customer service skills
