**Position Overview**:
The Traditional Counsellor is a key member of the Complex Care House team, providing culturally grounded, trauma-informed counseling and support to Indigenous residents facing significant mental health, substance use, and housing challenges using a harm-reduction approach. The role focuses on facilitating healing through traditional Indigenous practices.

This position is ideal for an individual deeply rooted in Indigenous cultural practices, with strong counseling experience and a passion for working with individuals with complex needs.

**Job Duties and Responsibilities**:
1. **Cultural and Spiritual Support**:

- Provide culturally appropriate counseling grounded in Indigenous traditions, practices, and beliefs.
- Facilitate access to traditional healing methods, such as smudging, drumming, and talking circles.
- Support residents in reconnecting with their Indigenous heritage, identity, and spirituality.

2. **Individual and Group Counseling**:

- Offer one-on-one counseling to address trauma, mental health, and substance use issues.
- Facilitate group therapy sessions to foster a sense of community and shared healing among residents.
- Work with residents on emotional regulation, harm reduction, coping mechanisms, and personal development.

3. **Trauma-Informed Care**:

- Provide trauma-informed care tailored to individuals with complex needs, including those impacted by intergenerational trauma, the 60s Scoop, residential schools, and foster care.
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals to create integrated care plans for residents.

4. **Case Management**:

- Work closely with residents, developing personalized care plans that incorporate both traditional and Western approaches to healing.
- Provide referrals to external services and supports, including mental health, substance use treatment, and social services.
- Assist in transition planning for residents, including housing and community reintegration.

5. **Community and Family Engagement**:

- Build strong relationships with family members and community supports to facilitate holistic care.
- Engage with Elders, knowledge keepers, and other cultural practitioners to bring additional healing practices to the residents.

6. **Advocacy and Empowerment**:

- Advocate for the rights and needs of residents within the care system.
- Empower residents by promoting self-determination and strengthening their connections to their communities.

7. **Training and Capacity Building**:

- Provide training to staff on Indigenous cultural safety and the importance of culturally sensitive care.
- Participate in continuous professional development and training to stay informed on best practices in trauma-informed care and Indigenous healing methodologies.
- Plan, and assist in development, and implement workshops and educational series for CCH participants with a focus on spiritual, emotional, physical, and mental health.

**Qualifications and Experience**:
**1. Education and Certification**:

- Diploma or degree in Indigenous studies, social work, psychology, counseling, or a related field.
- Certification in Indigenous healing practices, trauma-informed care, or mental health counseling (preferred).
- Training or certification in cultural safety and humility (an asset).

**2. Experience**:

- Minimum 2-3 years of experience in providing counseling services, with a focus on working with
