As a Health & Safety Officer, you will be involved in rewarding work on construction and construction oversight projects including industrial processes, power generation projects, water and wastewater treatment, transportation, environmental remediation, and emergency response. The Health & Safety Officer will support the project team in the execution of all phases of project delivery.

**Specific responsibilities of this role will include**:

- Support the Ontario Regional business groups by providing a day-to-day Safety & Health support for field activities
- Provide regular, reliable data for the purposes of monitoring Safety & Health performance
- Help build, improve, and follow project Health and Safety Plan (HASP)
- Ensure that GHD’s Safety & Health requirements are widely and consistently understood and implemented
- Participate in the development and review process of JSA
- Ensure all Safety Observations, inspections, training data, project specific information and incident reports are recorded
- Conduct effective investigation of incidents and near misses, develop final reports and follow up corrective actions
- Participate fully and openly in all compliance assurance audits, inspections and project meetings as needed
- Develop relationships with Client representatives, Contractors and Vendors
- Review project scope of work prior to field activities and communicate with leaders about conditions and safety & health concerns
- Monitor expiry dates certification, training, medical screening, etc. for project employees
- Identify Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) needs; order and issue PPE as required
- Develop safety & health related training packages and ensure project personnel are trained per GHD's Training Matrix

**Qualifications for the role**:

- Minimum 8+ years’ experience leading safety programs in civil construction, remediation, process, or similar construction or consulting companies
- Experience with the interpretation of and adherence with the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act and Construction Act
- Experience with IHSA Certificate of Recognition (COR)
- OSHA 40 Hour HAZWOPER, preferred by not required
- Valid Driver’s License and ability to drive to project sites with company vehicles.
- Ability to communicate orally with vendors, management, and other co-workers, both individually and in front of a group is important. Must be able to communicate in English both orally and written (French would be an asset, not required)
- Be capable of frequent extended air and ground travel and conduct site walks

**Note**:This role is primarily performed outdoors at construction sites and occasionally indoors in a traditional office setting. The following environmental/atmospheric working conditions are common:

- Job Site environment, including, but not limited to, machines, tools, heavy equipment, chemicals, solvents, dust and fumes
- Occasional exposure to extreme weather conditions
- Uneven ground
