A Roads Worker repairs broken and eroded roads on highways, municipal roads, and rural roads. Roads Workers clear debris from roads to maintain hazard free roads. Also called Highway Maintenance Workers.
**Roads Worker Responsibilities**:

- Repair broken roads on highway, town, and city roads.
- Operate machinery to dig up holes, pour concrete, and smooth out.
- Set up cones and signs to alert motorists.
- Plow snow.
- Clear off debris.
- Paint dividing lines between traffic lanes.
- Lay asphalt.
- Patrol roads for hazard, snow/ice conditions and maintenance/repair needs.
- Inspect and maintain operating equipment.
- Change vehicle fluids, including greases and oils.

**Roads Worker Requirements**:

- High School Diploma, GED, or suitable equivalent.
- Full driver’s license.
- 6 months’ previous experience as a Roads Worker.
- Experience servicing a wide range of heavy machinery preferred.
- Good working knowledges of road safety practices.
- Excellent teamwork skills.
- Successful completion of provided training.
- Outstanding verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work in all weather conditions.
- Physically fit, able to spend long periods of time on your feet.
