**Responsibilities**:
The Administrative Officer will manage and oversee a range of operational, financial, administrative, and human resources functions and processes to ensure smooth and efficient administration of the Department of Chemistry. The role will ensure effective and efficient financial administration, and provide financial oversight within the department, including conducting timely and accurate financial analysis and reporting. The Administrative Officer will serve as a resource for internal and external stakeholders in relation to all operations, administrative, human resources, financial, procurement and budgeting processes, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and Western's policies and procedures. As unit leader and liaison to the Chair and Dean’s Office, the role will monitor and evaluate current administrative processes and make recommendations regarding the development and implementation of new and revised processes to support continuous improvement and the use of best practices. The Administrative Officer will provide leadership and supervision to departmental administrative staff, offer guidance on various administrative processes, contribute to strategic planning processes, and monitor and manage resources to ensure the University community is served effectively.

**Qualifications**:

- Education:
- Undergraduate Degree in business Management/Administration, with completion of courses in human resources
- Completion or working towards Certified Human Resources Leader
- Graduate degree or graduate courses taken in Organizational Behaviour or other related field preferred

**Experience**:
- 5 years of progressively more responsible administrative experience, including previous supervisory, human resource and budgeting experience in a complex office environment
- Experience working in an academic environment with student populations preferred
- Experience in writing formal reports and letters on behalf of a senior leader an asset

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- In-depth knowledge of best practices for assessing, developing and implementing new business processes and procedures
- Knowledge of Financial and Human Resources principles and practices
- Ability to ensure expenditures and resources are within allotments, and to make appropriate modifications when required
- Communication skills to write clearly, complete detailed analytics and reports and adapt communication style and content for intended recipients
- Ability to effectively drive and manage change initiatives that align with organizational strategies and/or provide opportunities to increase efficiency
- Ability to organize and effectively manage financial and human resources needed to achieve results
- Ability to provide strategic analysis and recommendations for designing and implementing new and changing administrative processes
- Project management skills to manage multiple projects simultaneously from conception to completion within tightly prescribed timelines
- Verbal communication skills to translate information into easily understood terms, summarize information, provide a rationale for action, and present information to varied audiences
- Ability to handle details with a high degree of accuracy and to organize and prioritize a high volume of work to meet deadlines
- A well-defined sense of diplomacy, including solid negotiation and conflict resolution skills
- Commitment to ongoing professional development with a desire to take on new challenges
