Position Summary

This co-op position will be responsible for developing, manufacturing and characterizing nucleic acids which are used for synthesizing mRNA lipid-based nanoparticle formulations using NanoAssemblr platform to support internal research projects and product development.

Areas of Responsibility- Manufacture RNA based drugs using PNI’s proprietary cell-free systems.-
- Lead and support small independent projects on RNA manufacturing process development activities including both upstream and downstream processes.-
- Support small independent projects on bioreactor development & bioprocess development including experimental design and reports-
- Perform process optimization and validation experiments related to RNA-based drug manufacturing and perform appropriate assays for mRNA characterization.-
- Support assessment of the functional activity of synthetic RNA based vaccines.-
- Perform routine validation studies to support product development and biochemical engineering projects.-
- Assist in the scale-up and process development of RNA synthesis in the cell-free systems.-
- Prepares Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), reports and technical presentations.-
- Assists in the day-to-day management of the lab.-
- Performs other duties as assigned.Qualifications and ExperienceCurrently enrolled in a bachelor’s program in Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology & Biochemical Engineering, Nanotechnology Engineering or Pharmaceutical Sciences-
- Previous work experience in a related laboratory environment or completion of at least one previous co-op assignment.-
- Experience in analytical assays, strong analytical and troubleshooting capability.-
- Experience with biochemical and bioprocess engineering fundamental is an asset.-
- Experience of techniques such as Nucleic acid and Protein purification, Enzyme kinetics, gel electrophoresis, chromatographic purification techniques are an asset.-
- Must be a resourceful, proactive, detail oriented individual.-
- The individual must be a team player who thrives in a dynamic fast-paced environment with multiple tasks and aggressive deadlines.-
- Excellent communication skills.-
