**Position Summary**
This co-op position will be responsible for developing, manufacturing and characterizing nucleic acids which are used for synthesizing mRNA lipid-based nanoparticle formulations using NanoAssemblr platform to support internal research projects and product development.
**Areas of Responsibility**- Manufacture RNA based drugs using PNI’s proprietary cell-free systems.
- Lead and support small independent projects on RNA manufacturing process development activities including both upstream and downstream processes.
- Support small independent projects on bioreactor development & bioprocess development including experimental design and reports
- Perform process optimization and validation experiments related to RNA-based drug manufacturing and perform appropriate assays for mRNA characterization.
- Support assessment of the functional activity of synthetic RNA based vaccines.
- Perform routine validation studies to support product development and biochemical engineering projects.
- Assist in the scale-up and process development of RNA synthesis in the cell-free systems.
- Prepares Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), reports and technical presentations.
- Assists in the day-to-day management of the lab.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
**Qualifications and Experience**
- Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s program in Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology & Biochemical Engineering, Nanotechnology Engineering or Pharmaceutical Sciences
- Previous work experience in a related laboratory environment or completion of at least one previous co-op assignment.
- Experience in analytical assays, strong analytical and troubleshooting capability.
- Experience with biochemical and bioprocess engineering fundamental is an asset.
- Experience of techniques such as Nucleic acid and Protein purification, Enzyme kinetics, gel electrophoresis, chromatographic purification techniques are an asset.
- Must be a resourceful, proactive, detail oriented individual.
- The individual must be a team player who thrives in a dynamic fast-paced environment with multiple tasks and aggressive deadlines.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Be able to work with minimum supervision.
