Field Technician

Term: One-Year Contract
Hours: Up to 35 hours per week
The Field Technician plays a pivotal role in various ongoing Whitefish River First Nation Lands projects. This position involves crucial work on the land, reporting activities, and sometimes working in adverse weather conditions. *This position will primarily work outdoors, contributing significantly to the preservation and enhancement of our lands.
**RESPONSIBILITIES**:
- Assist with our ongoing Walleye Project and play a significant role in enhancing our Rearing Pond Program.
- Assist in completing Aerial Surveys of our Leased Lots and our new Land Selection Areas.
- Assist with our Additions to Reserve Project and the cleanup of railway ties.
- Assist with Environmental Monitoring programs here in WRFN, including new projects and shoreline assessments of the Bay of Islands and McGregor Bay.
- Assist with environmental site inspection for land allotments and leased lots.
- Accompany a third party while working within WRFN territory.
- Maintain field equipment. Develop inventory and needs.
- Enhance our existing GIS database.
- Other duties as requested.
**QUALIFICATIONS**:
- Work experience or education in an environmental-related science would be an asset.
- Must have a complete “G” Driver’s license and access to own vehicle.
- A pleasure craft license and experience driving a boat would be an asset.
- Basic Computer and Data Management skills are required.
- Animal and Plant Identification skills or willingness to learn and research is required.
- Experience flying a drone would be an asset, or the willingness to learn.
- Knowledge of Indigenous culture, traditions, and language (or willingness to learn).
- Excellent problem-solving, multi-tasking, and collaborative skills.
- Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work with mínimal supervision.
