**ABOUT THE ROLE**
Reporting to the Operations Supervisor, the Lead Wind Technician’s primary accountability is to be engaged in the maintenance, service repair, and installation of various wind turbine equipment and sub systems used in the operation of the Wolfe Island wind site. The lead role scope also includes daily reporting of operational metrics, safety, and work planning. Preventative maintenance planning and implementation, inventory control, and team scheduling are also key responsibilities.
This is a full-time day position with coverage as required and is based out of Wolfe Island, ON.
**WHAT YOU WILL DO**
- Planning & implementation of maintenance, preventative maintenance, service, repair, and installation of wind turbine equipment
- Daily work scheduling and planning based on current conditions regarding weather, safety, business priorities
- Provide technical support and assistance to in-field technicians
- Ensure all routine and preventative maintenance is performed accurately, on time, and of a high quality and documented to meet expectations of the company and for internal records
- Perform, monitor, support, and adhere to Transalta’s Health, Safety and Environmental policies and procedures
- Promote a positive, safe, and results oriented working environment
- Daily facility metric reporting and accurate record keeping to support site supervisor role
- TZAR report entering and record keeping
- After hours support and implementation of sub-station switching requirements - including close working relationship with the Wind Control Centre
- Onsite contractor supervision where necessary
- Daily review of completed work orders for accuracy, completeness, and inventory updates
- Daily radio monitoring to provide field support
- Light shipping & receiving duties
- Shop cleanliness and organization
- Continuous SCADA monitoring during regular business hours for turbine faults/issues
- Meet and maintain corporate performance indicators for availability and safety
- Work closely with site supervisor to maintain high level of transparency and adherence to goals
**WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU**
To be successful in this role, we are looking for the following must-have qualifications and experience:
- Trade Certificate in Electrical or Mechanical
- Strong leadership, coaching and team building skills
- Strong organizational skills
- Ability to meet tight timelines and adapt to changing priorities
- Strong communications skills, both oral and written
- Exposure to document management systems
- Knowledge of MS Office, including MS Word and MS Excel
- Ability to lead a team to make a meaningful difference
- Strong work ethic and able to lead by example
- Solid decision-making skills with ability to research and utilize findings
- Highly motivated and action oriented
- Ability to work with mínimal supervision
- Professional demeanor
- Exercises independent judgment and discretion in performing tasks
- Ability to develop skills and become part of our growing business units
- Must be physically capable of climbing and working at heights up to 80 meters
- Must possess a valid driver's license
