Term: One-Year Contract

Hours: Up to 35 hours per week

The Field Technician plays a pivotal role in various ongoing Whitefish River First Nation Lands projects. This position involves crucial work on the land, reporting activities, and sometimes working in adverse weather conditions. *This position will primarily work outdoors, contributing significantly to the preservation and enhancement of our lands.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist with our ongoing Walleye Project and play a significant role in enhancing our Rearing Pond Program.
  • Assist in completing Aerial Surveys of our Leased Lots and our new Land Selection Areas.
  • Assist with our Additions to Reserve Project and the cleanup of railway ties.
  • Assist with Environmental Monitoring programs here in WRFN, including new projects and shoreline assessments of the Bay of Islands and McGregor Bay.
  • Assist with environmental site inspection for land allotments and leased lots.
  • Accompany a third party while working within WRFN territory.
  • Maintain field equipment. Develop inventory and needs.
  • Enhance our existing GIS database.
  • Other duties as requested.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Work experience or education in an environmental-related science would be an asset.
  • Must have a complete "G" Driver's license and access to own vehicle.
  • A pleasure craft license and experience driving a boat would be an asset.
  • Basic Computer and Data Management skills are required.
  • Animal and Plant Identification skills or willingness to learn and research is required.
  • Experience flying a drone would be an asset, or the willingness to learn.
  • Knowledge of Indigenous culture, traditions, and language (or willingness to learn).
  • Excellent problem-solving, multi-tasking, and collaborative skills.
  • Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
