As a health and wellness organization, the First Nations Health Authority has aligned with the Provincial Public Health Order released on October 14, 2021. **Position Summary**:
Delivers professional nursing support and educational activities to community based First Nation Health Service Organizations and FNHA nursing programs in relation to mental health and substance use. They will provide direct support to improve nursing practice standards in communities with a focus on the activity of RN/RPN prescribing of opiate agonist treatment and addressing the toxic drug crisis. Supports on-the-ground planning and implementation of harm reduction and substance use training and skill development activities for community nurses employed in the delivery of nursing care in First Nations communities. Travel to communities in the Vancouver Coastal Region will be a requirement of the position.
**Responsibilities**:
1. Plans, organizes, and delivers a comprehensive range of professional nursing services in communities and in the office, including consultation, assessment, facilitation, teaching, and evaluation to further the development of knowledge and skills for nurses working in community with clients who experience mental health and substance use issues.
2. Engages in evaluation and monitoring of RN/RPN prescribing activities for the specific region as directed by the professional practice leader.
3. Includes Indigenous people with lived and living experience in program planning, implementation and evaluation or quality improvement initiatives in collaboration with the professional practice leader and project manager.
4. Provides clinical expertise to nurses to assist them in providing safe and competent nursing care, in the areas of substance use, harm reduction, trauma informed practice and safe prescribing practices.
5. Coordinates, plans, arranges, and delivers courses, workshops, and other educational sessions in communities or online to meet the needs and priorities of nurses in communities and centralized locations.
6. Provides clinical advice and assistance to Community Health Practice Consultants (CHPCs), nursing staff in clinical settings, and provides regular clinical information and practice updates on clinical care related to mental health, substance use and RN/RPN prescribing through in-services, case conferencing, conferences, and training sessions.
7. Assesses learning needs, ensures prescriber competencies are maintained and identifies educational priorities related to harm reduction, substance use and RN/RPN prescribing by utilizing various resources and modalities.
8. Collaborates with Nursing Practice Consultants, CHPCs, Professional Practice Leaders (PPLs), project managers, Clinical Nurse Specialists, FNHA employees, nurses, communities, and other stakeholders (i.e. local health authorities, pharmacists, prescribers) involved in the delivery of care related to mental health and substance use to plan related learning and training activities.

**Qualifications**:
- Bachelor’s degree in registered nursing or bachelor’s degree in psychiatric nursing, from a recognized university or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Additional training and education related to substance use, harm reduction, mental health and trauma informed practice.
- Three (3) years of experience as a registered nurse (RN) or registered psychiatric nurse (RPN) providing clinical practice support in primary care, community and/or public health nursing or acute care, ambulatory care and/or outpatient centres, including two (2) years of experience caring for clients with harm reduction and substance use concerns.
