Position Overview

Reporting to the Student Success Supervisor, the Student Success Advisor is responsible for ensuring students receive outstanding support throughout their time in the Foundation Program. This includes providing high-quality advising, academic guidance, developing and delivering social and co-curricular programming, coordinating well-being and community-building initiatives, and contributing to the day-to-day operations that foster student engagement, belonging, and academic success.

The Advisor will be hands-on and involved across all aspects of the student experience. A strong emphasis will be placed on proactively creating opportunities for students to engage outside the classroom, through social events, workshops, community service, and peer support initiatives.

Main Responsibilities

As Student Success Advisor, you will:
- Coordinate, design, and deliver inclusive social programming and events that foster a sense of belonging, cultural connection, and community among international students.- Develop and maintain a year-round calendar of co-curricular engagement, collaborating with instructors and support staff to align programming with academic goals and student needs.- Respond to student enquiries through a flexible, personalised and inclusive approach.- Support the day-to-day delivery of student support services across wellness, academic advising, and settlement/transition support.- Proactively engage students through drop-ins, check-ins, workshops, and group activities to ensure they feel supported both academically and socially.- Contribute to building a strong student-centered culture- Monitor student feedback and act on trends or concerns in collaboration with instructors and program leadership.- Ensure that all student-related data and documentation are accurate and kept up to date to support operational and reporting needs.- Support safety, wellness, and safeguarding practices to ensure every student is safe and cared for.- Build and maintain strong relationships with University of Alberta faculty, staff, and service departments to enhance the student experience.- Assist in recruitment and community engagement activities, including welcoming agent and institutional visitors to campus as required.- Uphold and model Kaplan International Pathways' Safeguarding, Health & Safety, and EDI practices.- Perform other duties as required by the Program Director, Student Success Supervisor, or senior leadership.

What you bring to the Role

To be successful in this role, you will have:
- University degree in related field is required- A strong background in social programming, student engagement, or event coordination within an educational or community setting.- 1-2 years of experience supporting international students, student life, and working in a cross-cultural environment.- 1-2 years of experience providing student-centred advising.- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills. Preference will be given to individuals who are fluent in Mandarin.- Strong organizational and time-management abilities with the flexibility to respond to evolving student needs.- Familiarity with student support operations, risk management, and wellness-focused practices is an asset.- Able to work collaboratively as part of a team and independently on projects.- A commitment to inclusive, student-centered service delivery and continuous improvement.- A demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion in both practice and values.

Year One Foundation Program

The University of Alberta’s Foundation Program is an innovative joint educational partnership between Kaplan International Pathways Canada and the University of Alberta, launching in 2025. The University of Alberta is a Top 100 world-ranking institution located in Edmonton, Alberta. This new Foundation Program provides international students who do not meet direct entry requirements with a pathway to full undergraduate admission. Students complete a three-term (one academic year) program that includes ten 3-credit university-level courses counting toward the first complete year of a Bachelor’s degree, alongside non-credit academic and skill-building classes designed to prepare them for long-term success.

Students are University of Alberta students from day one. Kaplan International Pathways supports them through operational management, supplemental instruction, well-being services, and co-curricular programming. Academic instruction is delivered by University faculty.
