We are seeking an **Indigenous Student Advisor** who is passionate about guiding students along their academic journey while staying rooted in the values of respect, courage, truth, honesty, wisdom, love, and humility. As an Indigenous Student Advisor, you will walk alongside students in a spirit of belonging, balance, and shared growth, ensuring that they are supported in every aspect of their education and cultural identity.

Reporting to the Manager of the _miyo-pimâtisiwin_ Centre, this position plays a key role in supporting First Nations, Métis, and Inuit learners at NorQuest College, helping them navigate their academic journeys with cultural, academic, and personal guidance.

As an Indigenous Student Advisor, your work will extend beyond individual advising to include supporting students’ transition into post-secondary education, facilitating community-building events, and guiding learners through their time at the college. You will also play an essential role in advising leadership on key trends and issues affecting Indigenous students and in providing insights to inform the overall student experience at the College.

**HOW YOU'LL MAKE A DIFFERENCE**
- Organize and deliver presentations, attend fairs, and represent the College at various events, conferences, meetings, agencies.
- Contribute to development and implementation of Indigenization Strategy.
- Provide service management to Indigenous funded learners (update learner plans, goal changes, course, attendance, progress & course swaps).
- Liaise between learner, funder, and various college programs & service staff.
- Provide course and program information for prospective learners & external partners.
- Connect with funders regarding funding matters, learner progress, and attendance & program withdrawals.
- Provide prospective learners with information on Student Financial Aid options.
- Meet with prospective learners and provide academic advising to aid learners with career goal determination.
- Provide information & referrals for support services, Indigenous community opportunities, cultural and holistic supports, and RBC Indigenous Student Mentorship Program.
- Provide appropriate advocacy services.
- Connect learners with cultural events, ceremonies, feasts, etc.
- Liaise with contacts in Admissions and Supports, Student Services, Advisors, Recruiters, and other college areas in order to ensure clear communication and understanding of each department’s roles and interdependencies.

**WHAT YOU BRING**
- A related post-secondary diploma is required in a related field (Education, Social Work or Native Studies). Bachelor’s Degree preferred. A combination of lived experience and education may also be considered.
- Connection to and, understanding of Indigenous communities, cultures, and traditions.
- In depth understanding of historic trauma and the impact of colonization and Residential Schools related to Indigenous peoples in Canada.
- 3-5 years of experience is required; experience in a post-secondary education environment would be an asset.
- An understanding of entrance requirements and/or career opportunities and knowledge of the post-secondary system is a significant asset.
- Understanding of post-secondary funding for Indigenous learners. Example: Band funding, Rupertsland Institute, third party sponsorships.
- Clean criminal record check within the last 30-days.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license and vehicle.
- Experience using CRM systems and social media platforms.
