Family Violence Community Educator

The primary function of this position is to:
- fulfill contractual obligations through the Government of Canada’s funding agreement in the development and facilitation of Alice House’s _Growing Together Program;_
- oversee and deliver the _Alice on the Go_ online education training program;
- provide enhanced parenting supports and learning opportunities targeting the unique needs of households facing family violence;
**Primary Responsibilities**
**Education**
- Oversees and delivers the Alice on the Go (violence prevention and recovery) training program and the Growing Together (early childhood service provider) training program, virtually and in an outreach capacity (i.e. police, schools, daycares, hospitals, workplaces, etc.)
- Conducts research and prepares professional quality informational documents outlining findings on topics related to Alice House service and the needs of women and children experiencing DV.
- Responsible for periodic content development and revision of educational program materials and content to stay abreast of sector trends, best practice and language.
**Project Management**
- Select, implement and leverage a project management tool for the ongoing oversight, timeline and deliverable management of the grant.
- Assist project consultant in development of Growing Together curriculum for a multi-module online learning program focused on domestic violence prevention and service provider response, trauma and behavioral responses in children.
- Responsible for the development, execution and ongoing delivery of a marketing and outreach strategy to grow engagement in the program.
- Responsible for completing quarterly grant reports.
- Responsible for the timely measurement of project outcomes and statistical reporting.
**Assessment, Counselling & Advocacy**
- Provides supportive group programming and individual support to Alice House clients on topics related to IPV, healthy attachment styles and violence prevention, formally and informally.
- Participates in the planning and execution of adult/child client social programming activities.
- Works closely with frontline staff to refer and engage clients in clinical services and broader community referrals.
- Works collaboratively to deliver responsive, anti-oppressive and trauma informed services to clients of Alice House.
- Capacity to provide crisis intervention when required.
- Offers education and guidance as appropriate, on the effects of violence on children and youth, recovery from trauma, regulation skills, and co-parenting.
**Administration**
- Supports administrative duties such as managing phones, front door duties, sanitization schedule, filing, and other duties in coordination.
- Participates in operational protocol and best practice development.
- Prepares progress reports, assessments, advocacy letters, and other documentation to support children’s, youth, and families healing and growth.
- Maintains accurate service statistics and provides program updates as needed to internal and external stakeholders.
- Other duties as assigned.
**Skills/Qualifications**
- Access to reliable transportation, satisfactory driving record and copy of valid license and insurance, **required.**:
- Post-secondary education in Social Work, Community Services, Gender Studies or another related human services specialty.
- Experience and/or training in topics related to gender-based violence/intimate partner violence/domestic violence, **required.**:
- 5 years' experience in community education and/or frontline service agency, considered a strong asset.
- Demonstrated experience in emotional, psycho-social, and mental health program development and facilitation; strong public speaking and presentation skills.
- Certification in Standard First Aid and CPR, Non-Violence Crisis Intervention, and Suicide Intervention (ASIST), or a commitment to secure these requirements within 3 months of being hired.
- Must be cognizant of the issues, concerns, and psychosocial implications experienced by children and families who have experienced family violence.
- Understanding and integration of trauma informed practice principles.
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion practice in the workplace.
- Have strong knowledge of community agencies and additional mental health services available to children and youth in the Halifax Region.
- Ability to work very collaboratively and flexibly within a team while also being independent in the role.
- Demonstrate resiliency and have a balanced holistic approach and outlook towards work and life.
- Adhere to professional boundaries and possess a strong work ethic.
- Comfortable working under periodic pressure in a dynamic and changing environment.
**Job Types**: Full-time, Fixed term contract
Contract length: 12 months
Pay: $48,000.00-$55,000.00 per year
