Project Overview

We are developing an advanced AI-based system for monitoring forest regeneration and seedling growth using drone imagery and computer vision.
The project involves collecting, labeling, and preparing UAV imagery to train deep learning models capable of identifying seedlings of different species in complex environments.

We are looking for a Research Assistant who can help accelerate dataset preparation through accurate image annotation and labeling, while also supporting drone-based field data collection when needed.

Key Responsibilities
- Annotate drone imagery to identify and label seedlings of different species using tools such as LabelImg, Roboflow, or CVAT.
- Maintain accuracy and consistency in labeling and organize datasets for AI model training.
- Conduct quality control checks on annotations and manage file structures and metadata.
- Use image editing and augmentation tools to prepare, refine, or expand image datasets for training purposes.
- Assist in fieldwork and UAV image acquisition, including documenting seedling species and conditions.
- Support basic image preprocessing (tiling, resizing, or geotagging) for dataset organization.
- Document workflows and help maintain a clear data management protocol.

**Qualifications**:
Required:

- Background in Forestry, Environmental Science, Geomatics, Remote Sensing, or related field.
- Experience with image annotation tools such as LabelImg, CVAT, or Roboflow.
- Ability to visually identify different tree or seedling species (or strong willingness to learn).
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow consistent labeling standards.
- Basic computer and data management skills.

Preferred Assets:

- Familiarity with QGIS, Python, or remote sensing imagery.
- Knowledge of UAV operations or possession of a Basic Drone Pilot Certificate.
- Experience with Photoshop, GIMP, or similar image editing tools.
