**WHY THIS ROLE**:
Reporting to the President and CEO, the Vice-President, Finance and Operations will play a crucial role in leading Invest Ottawa (IO). We are looking for a hard-working executive leader to oversee and manage, inspire, and guide the highly qualified shared services team consisting of finance, compliance, board governance, risk management, corporate reporting, facilities, human resources, systems, and information technology. As a key member of the executive team, the VP, Finance & Operations, is a trusted advisor to the President and CEO, Executive team and board, assisting in the delivery of strategic priorities and organizational activities.
Your primary responsibility will be to design and implement policies to promote company culture and vision, manage risks and oversee operations to keep IO on track. You will combine strategic, organizational, and administrative leadership to the day-to-day operations of IO.
**WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING**:
**Finance & Corporate Compliance**
- Oversee financial strategy, supporting the Finance team in the development of financial models, budgets, and analyses; leverage data to drive key operational decisions
- Oversees the development of the annual operating budget ($20-25 million) and ensures compliance with operating and program budgets by monitoring results and by providing timely communication to the leadership teams, and Board Committees.
- Provides insightful and proactive analysis to the Presidents and Board Committees which includes communicating with those key stakeholders at regular intervals (e.g., preparing written reports, agendas and presentations, and presenting at Board and Committee meetings).
- Engages with funders on strategic financial matters, provides practical advice and direction for proposal developments, and oversees activation and implementation of new funding agreements.
- Ensures compliance with Canada Revenue Agency and other legislative requirements reporting requirements for not-for-profit organizations.
- Oversees and guides the full range of financial, accounting, and procurement functions including policy development, updates, implementation, and enforcement.
- Responsible for the effective operation of the accounting and financial reporting systems.
**Risk Management and Governance**
- Develops and maintains the organization’s operating policies and procedures.
- Develops and maintains succession planning and risk management plans.
- Serves as chief resource for the Governance, Audit, and Executive Committee, leading the preparation of the Committees’ and Board packages.
- Ensures compliance with all regulatory and funding agreements; ensuring that all required reports are complete and accurate, and delivered in a timely manner.
- Oversee annual insurance review process, with emphasis on effective risk management for all aspects of IO operations
- Drives contingency planning, ensuring the organization can manage unexpected financial situations, market shifts, and periods of both growth and contraction
**Systems, Facilities, IT**:
- Leads development and implementation on data governance initiatives, including developing mechanisms for knowledge and data sharing, ongoing staff training related to data privacy and cyber security
- Championing change management to ensure high adoption and utilization of Systems and IT initiatives across the organization.
- Ensure that Bayview Yards remain state of an art innovation hub of Ottawa by maintaining LEED designation, bringing new technologies and innovative facility management approach.
