**POSITION: LEARNING HOUSE COORDINATOR**

**HOUR OF WORK: FULL-TIME, (35 HRS/WEEK)**

**REPORTS TO: EDUCATION MANAGER**

***:The Learning House Coordinator reports to the Education Support Services (ESS) Manager and oversees the Learning House (LH) Programs for the Tsawout First Nation. This is a full-time position and the incumbent overs the Education Assistants, Cultural Worker, Summer Staff, practicum students and volunteers who work with and assist the Learning House.

**Duties And Responsibilities**
- Design, operate and evaluate activities/initiatives according to the LH Program principles and guidelines (culture and language, education, health promotion, nutrition, social support and parent/family involvement).
- Produce and maintain reports related to the LH Program activities.
- Actively seek external funding and donations to support the LH Program, i.e., funding to assist with additional activities.
- Coordinate student intake services.
- Carry out public relations within the Tsawout community.
- Foster, maintain and reinforce positive and professional relationships with external partners, including School District 63, WSANEC School Board, University of Victoria, Mary Manning Centre, Victoria Native Friendship Centre, and other community service organizations.
- Accurately complete all LH Program related documentation (including services provided to children and families) in a timely manner and submit to the Education Manager.
- Establish and maintain a file management system that includes a record of children and families involved in the LH Program.
- Maintain regular contact with referral sources.
- Serve as an advocate between community resources and Tsawout families.
- Communicate with the community on the LH Program via public meetings, contributions to the community newsletter/other documents.
- Supervise LH Program team (i.e., SENCOTEN Cultural/Language Instructor (s), Education Assistants, Cultural Worker, Summer Staff, practicum students and volunteers.
- Report all cases of suspected child abuse/neglect per Tsawout policies. Provide follow-up (as deemed necessary) and maintain proper and accurate documentation.
- Prepare, maintain and regularly report financial information (i.e., financial reports, program budgets) to the Education Manager; maintain current financial records.
- Maintain strict confidentiality in performing all duties of this position and adhere to the Tsawout Standards of Conduct.

**Education and Experience**
- Grade 12 graduation (Dogwood or BC Adult Graduation Diploma);
- Valid FoodSafe Level 1 certificate;
- Valid Child Safe first aid and CPR certificate;
- Experience working with children aged 4 - 17 years an asset;
- Clean criminal record check with Vulnerable Sector required;
**Knowledge, Skills And Abilities**
- Ability to effectively plan, organize and implement LH Program activities.
- Excellent verbal and written skills. Make clear, compelling and well-organized presentations to individuals and groups, listen effectively and clarify information as needed or provide an appropriate response.
- Good organizational and time management skills. Ability to organize, prioritize, and where applicable, delegate work activities to efficiently accomplish tasks and meet objectives.
- Strong interpersonal skills, ability to establish and maintain effective and efficient working relationships with parents, staff and community agencies/representatives.
- Possess a strong interest in children and families.
- Excellent ability to prepare and administer a program budget.
- Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
- Knowledge of Tsawout cultural protocols/traditional practices is desirable.
- Strong research and analytical skills.
- Knowledge of Tsawout policies and procedures is desirable.
- Knowledge of procedures and processes required to perform a job or role; handle matters of confidential nature.
- Knowledge of pertinent local, provincial and federal policies, laws and standards related to the LH Program.
- Ongoing development and refinement of LH Program related policies and procedures.
