District Vice-Principal - Early Learning and Child Care (ELCC)

Located on the beautiful Saanich Peninsula near Victoria, the Saanich School District serves approximately 8,000 students in eight elementary, three middle and three neighbourhood secondary schools, as well as two Individual Learning Centres (ILC), the South Island Distance Education School (SIDES) and the Children’s Development Centre (CDC). The District employs 650 teachers, 37 principals and vice-principals, 500 unionized support staff, 17 exempt management staff within a $100 million operating budget.

Strong working relationships with all partner groups, including the local W_SÁNEC First Nation, have resulted in the Saanich School District having a well-established reputation of excellent student achievement and program innovation within a culture of caring and respect.

Qualifications and Attributes

Outstanding leaders who wish to be considered must be eligible for membership within the BC Teacher Regulation Branch by holding a valid BC teaching certificate and have completed a Master's Degree with an emphasis in early childhood education.

Applicants must also demonstrate an extensive background in successful elementary school teaching, instructional leadership and working with diverse learners including First Nations students and their families.

Areas of Responsibilities

Lead and support ELCC school district projects and initiatives

Identify opportunities for and expand access to ELCC on school grounds

Identify and align district resources to support ELCC

Coordinate existing or new ELCC initiatives alongside early learning staff and/or team

Maintain a focus on high-quality early learning and child care experiences

Liaise and consult with Elementary administrators and community partners

Liaise with Ministry staff and other district ELCC leads to share learnings and build capacity through a Provincial Network/Community of Practice

Responsibilities of a Principal/Vice-Principal as described by the School Act and Regulations

Build capacity among all school staff to support ELCC

Conduct professional learning sessions for staff on a regular basis
