Our mission is to support Aboriginal mothers and their children by providing a nurturing environment and services that honour and respect their traditions and values. The Centre is dedicated to fostering resilience, promoting well-being and celebrating the strength and wisdom of their cultures. The AMCS Transformational Housing department provides shelter, resources, support, and programs for Indigenous mothers and their children who are at risk, to help bring them together spiritually, physically, and emotionally. The Community Engagement department provides homelessness prevention supports in our immediate community of Vancouver, Burnaby, and the North Shore. Our AMCS 25-children Daycare provides an Aboriginal Head Start program for Indigenous children aged 3 to 5 years old.

**Job Summary**

As part of the Community Engagement team at Aboriginal Mother Centre Society, the Community Navigator will provide in-person assistance to secure or maintain housing for our community members. They will accomplish this by one-on-one meetings, as well as group workshop facilitation. They will carry a limited case management load in order to work closely with the Transformational Housing team to ensure smooth transitions for program participants at the end of their stays and to support community members who have more complex needs.

**Job Duties**

**-**Maintain and share up-to-date knowledge of indigenous-focused programs and services; develop relationships with other service providers.

**-**Work with the Community Engagement (CE) team to create linkages to services offered at AMCS and elsewhere in the community that meet the unique needs of indigenous people.

**-**Go into clients’ homes and into the community, to provide direct support and advocacy as appropriate. Direct support may include a range of activities such as attending meetings, accompanying to appointments, or helping prepare for a unit inspection.

**-**Support with case management for residents of the Transformational Housing (TH) program, with focus on preparing for moving out of our program in regards to child welfare, substance use, and mental wellness.

**-**Prepare and facilitate programs for the residents of Transformational Housing and community members, based on the current needs. Conduct needs assessment surveys and follow-up surveys.

**-**Work with the Community Engagement team to plan, set up, and facilitate events at Aboriginal Mother Centre and in the community. Maintain a calendar for CE clients and staff, and coordinate with TH Wellness Coordinator on the TH calendar.

**-**Collaborate with all departments across AMCS as needed.

**Qualifications**

**-**2+ years providing services to the indigenous community, a diploma or higher in relevant indigenous studies, or equivalent life experience.

**-**An understanding of issues facing Indigenous people in the Metro Vancouver area.

**-**Good working knowledge of Indigenous cultural customs and traditions; must be culturally competent. Ability to deal with individuals in a manner that shows cultural sensitivity, tact, and professionalism.

**-**Excellent communication, planning and facilitation, problem-solving and intervention skills; ability to handle stressful client issues.

**-**Strong case management skills and commitment to maintaining confidentiality.

**-**Excellent oral and written communication skills, ability to speak and write clearly, concisely, and effectively.

**-**Ability to multi-task and establish priorities; effectively organize workload and manage time.

**-**Ability to work independently and within a team environment.

**-**Good working knowledge of computers. Working experience in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.

**-**Commitment to ongoing learning and professional development.

**-**A criminal record check clearance letter.

**-**REQUIRED: Retain a class 5 Drivers License.

**Terms**

This is a full-time, contract position through March 31, 2026, with the possibility of being extended as regular employee.

Closing date: Sept 17, 2025

Start date: Sept 22, 2025 (Preferred start date, but flexible)

Hours: 37.5 hours/5 days a week

**Salary**: $28/hour

Pay: $28.00 per hour

Expected hours: 37.5 per week
