Indigenous Student Success Navigator

The Opportunity The Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT) is located in the traditional territories of the Niitsitapi (Blackfoot) and the people of Treaty 7 which includes the Siksika, the Piikani, the Kainai, the Tsuut'ina, and the Iyarhe Nakoda of Bearspaw, Chiniki and Goodstoney. We are situated on land where the Bow River meets the Elbow River, and the traditional Blackfoot name of this place is "Moh'kinstsis" which we now call the City of Calgary. The City of Calgary is also home to the Métis Nation. Reporting to the Director of Indigenous Engagement, People and Culture is seeking to hire an Indigenous Student Success Navigator for a 4-year term to connect graduating Indigenous students with employers. The role will build relationships with students and employers, as well as other colleges and universities in Alberta, providing support to all stakeholder groups. SAIT is taking the lead to pilot this program in Alberta that has had success in BC, the role of Indigenous Student Success Navigator is new and will require an energetic individual with the ability to travel. A strong understanding of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and the Calls to Action is essential to understanding SAIT's commitment to Truth and Reconciliation and intergeneration Indigenous success. The Role Navigate paths to secure employment for Indigenous graduating students Build solid relationships with students, employers, Alberta post secondaries Secure 2-year employment opportunities for graduating Indigenous students Ensure cultural competencies are in place and track progress of students Provide support to students and employers, as needed before and during employment Manage program budget Prepare Annual Report Work closely with the Office of Indigenous Engagement and Natoysopoyiis staff Preparing and routing client correspondence, documents, reports Travel bookings and reconcile credit card statements Demonstrate a solid understanding of SAIT's 5 Principles, ED&I framework and Commitment to Truth and Reconciliation. Additional duties, as required **Qualifications**: Education and Experience Required Degree in social science, social work, or humanities or a related field Minimum of three years' experience working with Indigenous peoples, ideally in an educational environment - Work experience and community involvement will be considered in place of education requirement. Knowledge of the needs of post-secondary Indigenous students Experience working in an Indigenous organization is an asset Ability to facilitate the KAIROS Blanket Exercise is an asset Ability to lead on the land learning sessions including tipi raising is an asset Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite Knowledge and Skills Required SAIT collective agreements SAIT Policy and Procedure AC 2.15.1 Indigenous Student Success Guide Alberta Human Rights, Citizenship and Multicultural Act Strong understanding of and positive attitude toward Indigenous population Knowledge of a First Nation language with preference to Treaty 7 (Blackfoot, Stoney Nakoda and Tsuut'ina) Knowledge of barriers affecting access to post-secondary education for Indigenous students Ability to maintain high-level of transparency, confidentiality and professionalism with SAIT students and staff Ability to work on multiple projects at a time Ability to meet assigned deadlines and a commitment to task completion Strong communication skills and problem-solving skills Strong organization and time management skills Strong public speaking and presentation skills Flexibility, patience, empathy, versatility and adaptability Strong teamwork skills (i.e. maintain open and respectful lines of communication, cooperation) **Job Classification**: INFORMATION OFFICER I - A5067 **Hours Per Week**: 37.5 **Salary Range**: $45,000 - $50,000 **Position End Date**: July 21st, 2028 **Posting End Date**: Until the position has been filled
